The Neurological Council of WA is seeking an experienced People & Culture Coordinator to coordinate our employee and volunteer lifecycle, deliver accurate payroll and support a positive, engaged and high-performing workplace culture.
This is a diverse and autonomous 0.6FTE role suited to a confident HR skilled who enjoys balancing people, compliance, systems, continuous improvement and payroll responsibilities. The position offers flexibility to work your contracted hours across 3 or 4 days per week.
Working closely with the Finance & Corporate Services Manager, you will play a key role in supporting our workforce and ensuring best-practice people processes across the organisation.

The Neurological Council of WA is a well-respected peak body for the neurological sector and a trusted community neurological nursing and health navigation provider delivering NeuroCare, NeuroKids and NeuFriends at no cost to the WA community. Supported by WA Department of Health, Telethon7 and generous corporate and private donors, we are based at The Niche QEIIMC and have regional offices in the South-West, Mid-West and Great Southern and mobile teams/outreach across regional WA.
About the Role
This role is responsible for delivering accurate payroll and supporting the full employee and volunteer lifecycle, including recruitment, onboarding, compliance, engagement, development and offboarding.
You will be responsible for:
Payroll & Employment Administration
- Process accurate end-to-end fortnightly payroll.
- Maintain employee records, employment data and HR systems.
- Prepare employment contracts, variations,
correspondence and employee documentation.
- Complete salary packaging, superannuation and payroll reconciliations.
- Ensure compliance with Fair Work legislation, Awards, policies and employment obligations.
- Support payroll reporting, audits and process improvements.
Human Resources
- Maintain compliance records including qualifications, training and mandatory requirements.
- Support leadership with probation reviews, performance management processes and employee relations matters.
- Coordinate recruitment, onboarding, induction and offboarding activities.
- Assist with learning and development initiatives, employee wellbeing programs and workforce planning activities.
- Contribute to policy development, policy reviews and continuous improvement projects.
- Prepare HR reports, workforce metrics and recommendations for management.
Employee Engagement & Culture
- Build positive working relationships across the organisation.
- Actively contribute to employee engagement, communication and recognition initiatives.
- Support the development of a positive, inclusive and high-performing workplace culture.
- Be a visible, approachable and trusted point of contact for staff.
Volunteer & Internship Programs
- Coordinate volunteer and internship recruitment, onboarding and engagement.
- Support the ongoing development of volunteer programs and processes.
- Monitor volunteer records, compliance requirements and participation.
- Assist with initiatives that enhance volunteer experience, engagement and organisational impact.
About You
To be successful in this role you will demonstrate:
Essential
- Minimum 3 years' experience in a similar Human Resources & Payroll role
- Sound knowledge of Australian employment legislation, Fair Work requirements and Awards
- Experience processing end-to-end payroll
- Demonstrated experience preparing employment contracts, variations and HR correspondence
- Robust organisational skills with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- Well-developed written and verbal communication skills
- Intermediate Microsoft 365 skills, including Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams and SharePoint
Desirable
- Experience within the not-for-profit, community services or healthcare sector.
- Experience using Employment Hero and Xero.
- Experience supporting volunteer programs.
