The Retail Commercial Strategy & Pricing Manager is responsible for leading the development and execution of Pacific Blue's Retail (Tango Energy) commercial strategy, driving sustainable gross margin growth across the Residential and Small Business portfolio. The role owns Retail customer, revenue and gross margin planning and forecasting, using data-driven insights to identify commercial opportunities, optimise portfolio performance and inform strategic decision-making.
Working closely with Wholesale & Risk, Finance, Retail Data, Sales & Marketing and other cross-functional stakeholders, the position also leads the Tango Energy pricing strategy, ensuring pricing frameworks and recommendations support the broader commercial strategy and long-term business objectives. As a strategic leader within our retail business, the role contributes to strategic planning, commercial performance and the delivery of sustainable customer and financial outcomes.
This is a full time permanent role located in Melbourne.
The role is primarily responsible for but not limited to:
- Lead the development and execution of Pacific Blue's Retail (Tango Energy) Commercial Strategy, driving sustainable customer growth, portfolio optimisation and gross margin performance.
- Own Retail customer, revenue and gross margin planning and forecasting, delivering data-driven insights to support strategic decision-making and commercial outcomes.
- Lead the development of pricing strategies, frameworks and commercial recommendations that align with the Retail Commercial Strategy and support long-term profitability.
- Analyse customer,
market and competitor trends to identify emerging opportunities and risks, developing initiatives that enhance customer value and commercial performance.
- Partner with Wholesale & Risk, Finance, Retail Data, Sales & Marketing and other stakeholders to optimise portfolio performance, pricing outcomes and commercial decision-making.
- Lead the development of customer segmentation, forecasting and commercial models to improve strategic planning and maximise portfolio value.
- Present commercial strategies, pricing recommendations and financial insights to senior stakeholders to support informed business decisions.
- Lead, develop and mentor a high-performing team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation and continuous improvement.
To be successful in this role you will have:
Knowledge and Experience
- Tertiary qualification in Business, Finance, Economics, Statistics, Accounting, Engineering, Mathematics or a related commercial or quantitative discipline.
- 10+ years' experience in the Australian retail energy sector or a similarly complex, regulated industry, ideally spanning commercial strategy, finance, pricing or commercial analytics.
- Demonstrated experience developing and leading data-driven commercial strategies that deliver sustainable customer growth and gross margin outcomes.
- Experience in commercial planning, forecasting, budgeting and financial modelling within a complex commercial environment.
- 3–5 years' experience working in pricing, tariff modelling, commercial analytics or related commercial disciplines, with demonstrated ability to develop pricing recommendations that support commercial strategy and gross margin outcomes.
- Broad understanding of the Australian electricity market, including wholesale, retail, regulatory and competitive market dynamics.
- Highly developed commercial acumen, analytical capability and strategic thinking, with the ability to translate complex data into actionable commercial insights.
- Proven ability to influence and collaborate with senior stakeholders, lead cross-functional initiatives and deliver commercial outcomes in a fast-paced environment.
