Valiant is a Sydney-based fintech unlocking business finance. The role

We're hiring a "full stack" Legal Counsel to sit at the centre of Valiant's day-to-day — contributing across enterprise deals, funding partner relationships, regulatory posture, privacy, people matters and corporate housekeeping. You'll flank our CFO & General Counsel on strategic growth initiatives and sit inside deal teams as Valiant negotiates platform agreements with some of the largest technology OEMs, banks and equipment financiers in the world.

This is not a job reviewing contracts from a quiet corner — it's a prominent, commercial seat with a genuine path to Senior Legal Counsel, and potentially Head of Legal, as the business scales toward $100m+ revenue across three continents.

This role is also AI-forward: you'll be equipped and encouraged to deploy AI daily to build legal machinery and cut through legal dross, using tools like Claude CoWork alongside the broader LegalOps stack.

What you'll own

- Commercial contracting & enterprise deals — funding partner agreements, platform agreements with global OEMs and financiers, and referral partnerships,



from termsheet through signature and renewal; building the precedent bank and playbooks that make standard deals quick and consistent
- Regulatory, privacy & compliance — the internal expert on the regulatory perimeter for commercial finance broking and embedded finance in Australia, plus Valiant's privacy program across AU, US and UK/EU regimes
- Corporate & governance — board papers, resolutions, registers and filings across multiple entities and geographies, plus support for new market entry
- Legal operations & AI — running the legal tech stack day‑day, scoping and managing external counsel, and driving thoughtful AI adoption
- Business partnering & disputes — holding the line on risk appetite while finding the fastest path to "yes," educating the business on legal guardrails, and taking first‑line carriage of complaints and disputes

What you bring

- 4+ years PQE in a corporate/commercial, banking & finance or technology practice at a reputable firm, with an Australian practising certificate
- Sharp, precise drafting and negotiation with spine — comfortable holding your ground against counterparties many times Valiant's size, and equally comfortable knowing which points aren't worth the fight
- An ownership mindset — you want to build things, keep registers immaculate and cover all your bases, not just review what lands on your desk
- Plain-English communication — you can debate black-letter law but also translate "legal" for any audience
