Council is currently seeking applications for the 2027 Apprenticeship intake! Grow your career outdoors with a hands‑on Apprenticeship in Parks and Gardens, helping shape and maintain some of Townsville’s most iconic public spaces. Under the guidance of experienced professionals, you will develop practical skills through a competency‑based program that blends formal training with real‑world, on‑the‑job learning.

You will take pride in maintaining and enhancing parks, open spaces and sporting facilities across the Townsville region — including working in Townsville’s most high‑profile locations such as The Strand, Pallarenda and Jezzine Barracks, ensuring these much‑loved community spaces remain maintained, vibrant and beautifully presented for residents and visitors.

This apprenticeship includes completing a 3‑year Certificate III in Parks and Gardens through TAFE North Queensland, providing a nationally recognised qualification and a strong foundation for a rewarding career in horticulture and landscape maintenance.

This position will commence in February 2027.

Qualifications And Experience In an ideal applicant, we are looking for:

- Willingness to be part of, and promote,



a positive safety culture whilst adhering to all Health and Safety policies and procedures.
- Minimum completed of Year 10 with passes in English and Mathematics.
- Minimum of Queensland C class provisional drivers’ licence (or ability to obtain).
- Sound written and verbal communication skills.
- Sound computer skills.
- Ability to work effectively and be positively involved within a team environment.
- Complete all training and assessment requirements of a Certificate III in Parks and Gardens as per the provided training plan. This includes attending and participating in structured formal learning at the nominated Registered Training Organisation (RTO) as well as keeping an accurate and up to date training record book.
