Jem Archaeology is seeking an experienced Archaeologist (Heritage Advisor) – Project Manager to join our team.

In this role, you'll lead diverse Aboriginal and historical heritage projects across Victoria, managing the full project lifecycle from client engagement and field activities through to reporting, approvals, and project delivery.

Combining technical expertise with project leadership, you'll work closely with clients, Registered Aboriginal Parties (RAPs), Traditional Owners, regulators, and internal teams to deliver practical, heritage-positive outcomes while helping shape the future growth of our business.

We are looking for

An experienced archaeologist with current Heritage Advisor status (or eligibility), and a strong understanding of Victorian Aboriginal cultural heritage legislation and compliance requirements.

Degree qualified in Archaeology, with Honours or postgraduate preferred

Demonstrated experience delivering Aboriginal and/or historical archaeology projects within Victoria.

Strong technical reporting experience including CHMPs, heritage assessments, due diligence reports, and other heritage documentation.

Proven ability to lead field investigations and manage heritage projects from planning through to completion including archaeological survey, excavation, and site recording.

Excellent communication and relationship building skills, with the ability to engage effectively with clients, RAPs, Traditional Owners, regulators, and project teams.

A collaborative and solutions-focused approach, with the ability to provide sound professional advice and manage competing priorities.

In this role, you will be responsible for:

Leading Aboriginal and historical heritage projects from proposal through to successful completion.

Preparation and review of CHMPs, heritage assessments, due diligence reports,



Letters of Advice, and associated documentation.

Coordination and supervision archaeological surveys, excavations, salvage and field assessments across a diverse range of projects.

Providing specialist advice on Aboriginal cultural heritage legislation, compliance requirements, and heritage management outcomes.

Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients, Registered Aboriginal Parties (RAPs), Traditional Owners, regulators, and project stakeholders.

Identifying project risks and develop practical solutions that balance heritage, compliance, and client outcomes.
