About the role The Associate Director, Construction Risk plays a key role in supporting Housing Australia’s construction lending activities by providing technical due diligence, project monitoring, and construction risk oversight across a diverse portfolio of projects. Working closely with clients, investment teams, and delivery partners, the role provides expert advice throughout the project lifecycle, from initial assessment through to completion, helping to identify and manage delivery risks and support informed lending decisions. This is an opportunity to contribute to the successful delivery of housing projects while ensuring strong risk management, project performance, and value for investment outcomes.
Key responsibilities
- Provide construction risk and technical due diligence expertise across housing and infrastructure projects, including pre-funding assessments, contract reviews, risk analysis, and mitigation recommendations.
- Monitor project performance throughout delivery, undertaking site inspections, assessing project risks, preparing drawdown reports, and supporting portfolio reporting and oversight.
- Partner with clients and internal stakeholders to provide construction, technical, and project delivery advice that supports informed investment and risk management decisions.
- Promote strong risk governance and compliance practices, ensuring projects are assessed, monitored, and managed in line with Housing Australia’s lending, risk,
and policy frameworks.
Skills And Experiences
Skills and experience
- Extensive experience in construction risk, project delivery, or technical due diligence, ideally gained within construction, property development, quantity surveying, banking, financial services, or advisory environments.
- Robust technical expertise in residential development and infrastructure projects, including construction risk assessment, project management, capital expenditure evaluation, and financial analysis.
- Sound understanding of property-related legislative, regulatory, and government frameworks, with the ability to provide practical advice within complex stakeholder environments.
- Highly developed stakeholder engagement, communication, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively with clients, delivery partners, lenders, and internal teams.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or a related discipline, with professional memberships such as AIQS or RICS highly regarded.
