Title: Audiobook Director, Recordist, and Editor

Employment: Casual Overview An Audiobook Director, Recordist, and Editor at SquareSound Sydney is responsible for directing,

recording, and editing high-quality audiobook productions. In this role, you will collaborate closely with producers and narrators to ensure strong creative and technical execution, while maintaining consistency with client standards and studio workflows. This position focuses on hands-on production rather than team leadership or business development. Key Responsibilities

Audiobook

Direction and Recording

Direct narrators during recording sessions to achieve explicit, engaging performances.

Record and monitor sessions using industry-standard hardware and software (e.g., ProTools).

Identify and log pickups and retakes to maintain production efficiency and quality.

Ensure consistent session setup and file management according to Soundfirm standards.

- Editing and Post-Production

Prepare audiobook sessions files to final form for QC and proofing, following established workflows, using software provided (e.g. Pozotron)

Complete QC corrections and prepare final masters for delivery.

Maintain organised session files and backups for archival and client reference.

- Standards and Technical Consistency

Ensure all projects comply with client operational, technical, and delivery specifications.

Maintain awareness of the latest audio tools, plugins, and workflow best practices.

Support smooth handover and coverage planning during periods of leave or project transition.

- Collaboration and Communication





Work collaboratively with producers, engineers, and freelancers to meet project timelines.

Communicate effectively with clients when required to clarify performance or technical needs.

Provide feedback to improve technical and creative processes within audiobook workflows.

Performance

Targets (Indicative)

Deliver projects on schedule and within quality benchmarks defined by Soundfirm.

Maintain consistent session workflow and metadata practices across all assigned titles.

Required Skills and Experience

Minimum three years’ experience in audio production, preferably with narrative or voice-

over content.

Proficiency in Pro Tools and familiarity with professional studio environments.

Strong technical understanding of microphones, signal chains, and editing workflows.

Excellent attention to detail and ability to maintain audio quality across edits.

Effective communication and collaboration skills across creative and technical teams. Competencies

Strong listening skills and creative attention to performance nuance.

Problem-solving and adaptability in fast-paced studio environments.

Self-motivated, dependable, and proactive in managing daily responsibilities.
