Business Development Manager

23 Digital

Melbourne (St Kilda) – Hybrid (3 days in office, 2 days WFH)

Full-Time

This role is based in Melbourne and is open to Melbourne-based candidates only. Applicants must be able to work from our Melbourne office as required.

We’re looking for someone who understands that business development isn’t about chasing signatures, it’s about creating the right commercial opportunities, with the right clients, for the right solutions.

At 23 Digital, our Business Development Managers play a critical role in helping ambitious businesses understand what they need across web, eCommerce, SEO, performance media, marketing automation and digital growth.

We’re not looking for a transactional salesperson who simply books meetings and pushes proposals. We’re looking for a commercially minded, consultative BDM who can uncover real business needs, shape clear solutions, build trust, and convert opportunities into high-quality client partnerships.

This is a role for someone who wants to sell properly: with structure, insight, credibility and accountability.

You’ll be just as comfortable:

Speaking with business owners, marketing managers and senior decision-makers

Diagnosing commercial and digital growth challenges

Turning conversations into well-structured proposals

Working with internal specialists to shape the right solution

Managing a pipeline with discipline and accuracy

Following up with persistence without becoming pushy

Closing new business that is commercially sound and deliverable

If you’re someone who enjoys the consultative side of sales, takes ownership of your pipeline, and wants to be part of a growing digital agency with strong capability behind you, this is the right environment. The Role

This role is based in St Kilda, Victoria. You will need to be able to attend the office in St Kilda at least 3 days a week, with 2 days designated to WFH.

You will be responsible for generating, managing and converting new business opportunities across 23 Digital’s service offering, including:

Website design and development eCommerce solutions

SEO

Paid search and paid social

Digital strategy

Marketing automation and related digital growth services

You will work closely with the General Manager, department heads, project teams and specialists to ensure that what we sell is strategically sound, commercially viable and deliverable.

You will be responsible for:

Managing and converting inbound new business enquiries

Proactively generating new business opportunities through outreach and relationship building

Running discovery calls and meetings with prospective clients

Understanding client goals, challenges, budget, urgency and decision-making process

Developing clear, compelling proposals and presentations

Working with internal teams to scope solutions accurately

Maintaining a clean, accurate and active pipeline in HubSpot

Following up consistently and professionally

Meeting agreed sales targets and activity expectations

Supporting handover from sales into delivery so new clients start with clarity

Identifying opportunities to grow revenue from existing relationships where appropriate

Representing 23 Digital professionally in market

This role is measured by quality revenue, pipeline discipline, conversion, and the ability to bring the right clients into the business.

Experience & Capability

We’re less interested in someone who can “talk sales” and more interested in someone who can actually sell consultatively, commercially and consistently.

You’ll likely bring

Sales Experience

Proven experience in a B2B sales, business development or digital agency sales role, ideally selling websites, digital marketing, SaaS, technology, marketing services or professional services.

Consultative Selling Ability

You know how to ask strong questions, uncover real needs, identify commercial pain points and guide a prospect toward the right solution.

Digital Understanding

You do not need to be a technical specialist, but you must be able to understand and confidently discuss websites, eCommerce, SEO, paid media and broader digital marketing services.

Commercial Awareness

You understand that not all revenue is valuable revenue. You can qualify opportunities properly, consider scope and delivery implications, and avoid selling work that is unclear, underpriced or misaligned.

Proposal & Presentation Skills

You can turn discovery into a clear proposal, explain value, handle objections and present with confidence.

Pipeline Ownership

You are disciplined with CRM updates, follow-ups, next steps, forecasting and deal progression. You do not need to be chased to manage your own pipeline.

New Business Mindset

You are comfortable with outbound activity, warm follow-up, networking and proactive opportunity creation. You understand that good sales performance comes from consistent pipeline generation.

Internal Collaboration

You can work effectively with project managers, strategists, developers, SEO specialists, performance marketers and leadership to shape the right solution.

Professional Maturity

You are resilient, organised, accountable and commercially sensible. You take ownership, communicate clearly and do what you say you will do.

Technical

Skills & Tools

Experience with some or all of the following will be highly regarded:

HubSpot or similar CRM

Proposal writing and sales presentation tools

LinkedIn Sales Navigator or similar prospecting tools

Google Workspace / Microsoft Office

Understanding of website and eCommerce platforms such as Shopify, WordPress, WooCommerce or Magento

Understanding of SEO, Google Ads, Meta Ads and broader digital marketing services

Sales reporting, pipeline management and forecasting What Success Looks Like A successful Business Development Manager at 23 Digital will:
