The Role

Our Drug Treatment Services consists of Intake and Assessment, Care Recovery Coordination, Non-Residential Withdrawal, Non-residential Therapeutic Day Program, Drug and Alcohol Counselling and Opioid Replacement Therapy (ORT) for adults also known as Pharmacotherapy.



The Drug and Alcohol Counselling team is responsible for the provision of specialist alcohol and other drug therapeutic counselling using evidence based psychological interventions with adults.

The Drug and Alcohol Worker position objectives and key responsibilities are as follows:

- Provide AOD services to clients accessing our ORT program.
- Enhance the ability of individuals, family members and significant others to respond to drug and alcohol issues in the Pharmacotherapy program.
- Provide intake assessments and comprehensive assessments including mental health and family violence screens.
- Provide Care and Recovery to assist clients in this cohort to work towards harm minimisation strategies.

Key Selection Criteria

- Preferred: Tertiary Qualification in Psychology, Counselling, Social Worker or equivalent. Minimum: Certificate IV in AOD/Diploma in Community Services (or working towards)
- Demonstrated ability to work with a wide range of clients and complexities including but not limited to homelessness, co-occurring mental health and/or ABI, family violence, social and cultural barriers and chronic physical health issues.
- Demonstrated high level interpersonal, communication and consultation skills and the ability to effectively engage with a broad range of clients/community members and stakeholders internal and external.
- Comprehensive knowledge of and the ability to assess risk and respond in an effective, timely and professional manner that is representative of the organisation’s values and core principles.
- Excellent written and oral skills,



including the ability to write and present community education and group programs.
- Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Sound understanding of and commitment to the Social Determinants of Health for clients.
- Understanding of harm minimisation including harm reduction.
