Construction Estimator – Sydney Metro

Position Overview

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Construction Estimator to join our growing team servicing construction projects throughout the Sydney metropolitan area. The successful applicant will be responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates, analysing project documentation, sourcing supplier pricing, and supporting the delivery of competitive tenders across residential, commercial, and civil construction projects.

This role requires excellent analytical skills, solid attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively under deadlines while maintaining high levels of accuracy.

Key Responsibilities

- Prepare detailed cost estimates for construction projects.
- Review architectural, engineering, and construction drawings and specifications.
- Perform quantity take-offs and material calculations.
- Obtain quotations from subcontractors and suppliers.
- Analyse labour, equipment, plant, and material costs.
- Prepare tender submissions within required timeframes.
- Assess project risks and identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Liaise with project managers, clients, consultants, suppliers, and subcontractors.
- Maintain estimating databases and pricing schedules.
- Assist with budgeting, procurement planning, and project cost forecasting.
- Attend pre-tender meetings and site inspections when required.
- Ensure estimates comply with relevant Australian Standards, Building Codes, and WHS requirements.
- Support contract negotiations and project handovers to construction teams.

Skills & Experience
- Previous experience as a Construction Estimator or in a similar estimating role.
- Ability to interpret construction plans, engineering drawings, and specifications.
- Strong mathematical and analytical skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.




- High level of attention to detail and organisational ability.
- Ability to manage multiple tenders simultaneously.
- Strong negotiation and supplier relationship management skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Experience using estimating software is highly regarded.
- Knowledge of Australian construction practices, contracts, and regulations.

Qualifications

- Certificate IV, Diploma, or Degree in Construction Management, Building, Quantity Surveying, Engineering, or a related field (preferred).
- Current unrestricted Australian Driver Licence.
- White Card (Construction Induction Card) or willingness to obtain.
- Full Australian working rights.

Desirable Experience

- Experience estimating residential, commercial, industrial, or civil construction projects.
- Knowledge of Sydney construction market rates.
- Experience with procurement and subcontractor management.
- Familiarity with estimating platforms such as CostX, Buildsoft, Cubit, Benchmark Estimating, or similar software.

Work Location
