Are you an experienced Trainer and Assessor with expertise in industrial automation, instrumentation, electrical hazardous areas or related technical fields?
O’Brien Training is inviting Expressions of Interest from qualified industry professionals to join our network of subcontract Trainers and Assessors. Successful applicants may support the delivery of current and future nationally recognised training programs at O’Brien facilities and customer sites across Australia.
This opportunity would suit an experienced trainer who enjoys sharing practical industry knowledge, developing workforce capability and delivering high-quality training in industrial environments.

Areas of Training
We are particularly interested in hearing from professionals qualified and experienced in delivering one or more of the following:
- UEE43225 – Certificate IV in Industrial Automation and Control
- UEE42220 – Certificate IV in Instrumentation and Control
- UEE42622 – Certificate IV in Hazardous Areas – Electrical
We also welcome Expressions of Interest from trainers with relevant experience across complementary electrical, instrumentation, automation and industrial technical disciplines.
About the Opportunity
As a Contract Trainer and Assessor, you may be engaged to:
- Deliver engaging, practical and theory-based training
- Conduct competency-based assessments in accordance with training package requirements
- Adapt delivery to suit participants with different levels of experience
- Provide practical demonstrations using relevant equipment and systems
- Maintain accurate training and assessment records
- Ensure training is delivered in accordance with RTO policies and regulatory requirements
- Promote safe work practices throughout all training activities
- Provide constructive feedback and support to participants
- Maintain current industry knowledge and vocational competency
- Work collaboratively with O’Brien Training personnel and customer representatives
Training may be delivered at O’Brien facilities or customer sites throughout Australia. Interstate travel may be required depending on course demand and delivery arrangements.
About You
You are an experienced technical professional who can translate complex information into practical, easy-to-understand training. You are confident working with participants from varied backgrounds and bring credibility through current or recent industry experience.
You will ideally demonstrate
- Strong technical knowledge within your area of expertise
- Experience delivering vocational education and training
- A practical and engaging training style
- Clear written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organisation and record-keeping capabilities
- A commitment to safety, compliance and quality
- The ability to work independently and professionally at customer sites
- A flexible approach to training schedules, locations and participant needs
Essential Requirements
Applicants must hold:
- TAE40122 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, TAE40116, or another equivalent qualification permitted under the applicable RTO standards
- Relevant vocational or trade qualification(s)
- Current industry experience relevant to the training being delivered
- Relevant electrical licence(s) and industry certification(s), where applicable
- A strong understanding of Australian Standards, protected work practices and industrial environments
- The right to work in Australia
Depending on the engagement, subcontractors may also be required to hold or provide:
- A current Australian Business Number
- Appropriate professional and public liability insurance
- A current driver’s licence
- Relevant site access, safety or high-risk work credentials
- Evidence of ongoing professional development and industry currency
- The ability to travel interstate when required

Engagement Details
This advertisement is an Expression of Interest for subcontractor opportunities. The frequency, location and duration of assignments will depend on training demand, customer requirements and the trainer’s qualifications and availability. Submitting an Expression of Interest does not guarantee an engagement or a minimum volume of work. Specific scope, rates, travel arrangements and delivery expectations will be agreed upon before each assignment.
