Halbury

Mechanical Fitter / Fabricator

● Ready to build real things, own the outcome, and work alongside a crew that trusts you to get it done?

● Workshop and field-based - Halbury, South Australia

● Full-Time - $80,000 to $100,000 pa superannuation annual performance bonus

About Walco Seed Cleaning

Walco Seed Cleaning is a family-owned business that designs, builds and operates custom seed cleaning and agricultural machinery. We manage everything from concept through to commissioning, and every machine that leaves the workshop carries the Walco name.

We are in a genuine growth stage, building more, doing more, and expanding alongside our sister businesses Walco Engineering and Diamond Class Trailers. This is not a big corporate. You are known here, your work is visible, and your contribution makes a direct difference to how the season runs.

About the role

Walco is looking for a skilled Mechanical Fitter / Fabricator to take ownership of the mechanical integrity of every machine we design and build.

You will fit, assemble, commission and maintain custom agricultural machinery, and contribute your mechanical judgement from the early stages of design so machines are built right the first time, not fixed after the fact.

Reporting to the General Manager, you will work as a key part of a small, high-performing crew across the workshop and in the field as required.

No formal trade certificate is required. This role is assessed on demonstrated mechanical skill and experience. If you can do the work, we want to talk to you.

The season runs hard from approximately November to May. Seasonal overtime is expected, and a reliability bonus is on the table for those who deliver through it.

What you will be doing

● Fitting and assembling drivelines, bearings, seals, gearboxes, hydraulic and pneumatic systems

● Making on-the-spot adjustments, brackets and modifications using welding and cutting equipment during assembly and fault-finding

● Reviewing concepts and designs early: flagging mechanical issues, serviceability problems and failure points before they are locked in

● Assembling, commissioning and testing finished machines before dispatch to confirm they run to specification

● Diagnosing the root cause of mechanical faults in the workshop and in the field: fixing the cause, not just the symptom

● Servicing and maintaining the Walco machine fleet so it is season-ready and proven before each season starts

● Owning first-pass quality from the first fit-up: keeping the work area clean, safe and to standard

● Contributing to how machines are built and recommending improvements where a machine could run better

What we are looking for

● Solid mechanical fitting background across drives, bearings, gearboxes, hydraulics or pneumatics

● Working fabrication skills: MIG welding at minimum, to support assembly and fault-finding

● Able to read engineering drawings and follow a concept, and confident to question a design when something is not right

● Solid fault-diagnosis ability: solves problems at the cause, not the symptom

● Takes ownership of the quality and reliability of the finished machine

● Works well in a small team and operates independently without close supervision

● White Card (construction induction), or willingness to obtain

● Experience in agricultural, industrial or custom machinery is an advantage, but not essential

● Cert III in Engineering (Fabrication), or equivalent on-the-job experience, desirable

● Field service experience a bonus The kind of person who will thrive here

You are likely to be:

● Calm under pressure: keeps things safe first, then works the problem and gets on with it

● A self-directed maker who can read a rough sketch and start building from it

● Someone who owns a job through to completion rather than watching the clock

● A clear communicator who keeps management posted so issues get caught early

● Positive and crew-minded: you lift the team

● Genuinely drawn to the outdoor, physical,

rural lifestyle

● Hungry to keep learning and able to take constructive feedback as fuel to improve

● Someone who does the little extra without being asked: tidy workshop, pitches in, turns up early

Why join Walco?

● Real work with a fast, visible outcome: you turn a rough idea into a working machine and watch it deliver

● Genuine trust and ownership: run with the job, use your judgement

● A family business that genuinely looks after its people: you are known here, not a number

● A small, positive crew who give one hundred percent and still have fun along the way

● Clear room to grow: small team, fast track, real path to leadership as the business scales

● Competitive base pay plus seasonal overtime and a season-end reliability bonus

● Country lifestyle: the space, the pace and the rural community, away from the city

● Opportunities across the broader group: Walco Engineering and Diamond Class Trailers

● A business that is building something, and wants you to help build it

Our values

At Walco, our values are simple:

● Build positivity

● Go above and beyond

● Let your actions align with your words

● No-nonsense, intuitive problem solving

● Mastery through learning every day

We value ownership, clear communication, a genuine work ethic, and a crew that looks after each other.

About the leadership team

Our General Manager is direct, hands-on and no-nonsense. He sets the standard and backs the crew to meet it. He leads a young, positive team that is oriented toward success and genuinely enjoys the work.

Our Owner and Founder is growth-focused, straight-talking and invested in the people who build the business with him. He has a long-term vision for Walco, and he brings the people who contribute to that vision along for the ride.

Think this is for you?

If you are a skilled fitter who takes pride in what they build, backs themselves to run with a job, and wants to be part of a growing business in the country, we would love to hear from you. Apply now, or reach out to Jaimie Daw on 0487178 or email @goldstarrecruitmentservices.com.au
