Library Officer (Casual)

Casual Position | Tuesday to Friday | 10:00am – 2:00pm

Katherine Town Council is looking for a friendly, reliable and enthusiastic Library Officer to join our Community Relations team on a casual basis.

This role offers consistent daytime hours, making it ideal for someone looking for work-life balance while making a positive contribution to the Katherine community.

About the Role

Reporting to the Community Relations Coordinator , you will help deliver high-quality library services and provide a welcoming experience for all library visitors.

Your duties will include:

- Providing exceptional customer service to library patrons.
- Assisting with library loans, returns and memberships.
- Processing payments and balancing daily transactions.
- Shelving books, processing new stock and maintaining the library collection.
- Assisting customers with computers, Wi‑Fi, printing, scanning and self‑service technology.
- Supporting library events, children's activities and school holiday programs.
- Helping maintain a clean, safe and inviting library environment.
- Promoting library services and encouraging community participation.

About You





We're looking for someone who:

- Has excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Enjoys working with people of all ages and backgrounds.
- Is organised, reliable and takes pride in their work.
- Has sound computer skills and the ability to learn new systems.
- Can work independently as well as part of a small team.
- Has good literacy and numeracy skills.
- Holds, or is willing to obtain, a Working with Children Check.
- Previous experience in a library, customer service, administration, retail or tourism role will be highly regarded.
