Help turn AI ideas into solutions that work
RANZ Tech is building the next phase of its AI, data and digital capability, and we are looking for a Forward Deployed AI Engineer to help lead that journey.
This is not a traditional back-office engineering role.
You will work directly with clients to understand complex business problems, rapidly shape solutions and turn promising AI concepts into secure, governed and production-ready capabilities.
You will operate at the intersection of consulting, engineering and delivery. One day you may be designing an AI agent connected to enterprise data, the next integrating a workflow into Microsoft 365, building a retrieval-based knowledge solution or helping a client move an AI pilot into production.
If you enjoy solving real problems, working closely with customers and seeing your work create measurable impact, this role is for you.
About RANZ Tech
RANZ Tech helps organisations turn AI, data and digital strategy into practical, measurable outcomes.
We bring together advisory, engineering and delivery expertise to build secure, connected and governed solutions that work in real-world environments. Our work spans AI adoption, data platforms, cloud engineering, analytics, automation and digital transformation.
We help clients move beyond presentations and proofs of concept into reliable, production-ready capability.
We simplify complexity, collaborate closely with our clients and stay focused on delivery. The results we create are our strongest proof of value.
The Role
As a Forward Deployed AI Engineer, you will work alongside client teams, consultants, architects and engineers to design, build and deploy AI-driven and data-connected solutions.
You will be expected to move comfortably between business conversations and hands-on engineering. You will help identify the real problem, select the right technical approach, build the solution and stay involved through testing, deployment and adoption.
This is a Hybrid role but our preference is to be based within our Australia or New Zealand based teams, with regular collaboration at client sites and with delivery teams across Australia, Current Zealand and the wider Pacific region.
What you will do
- Work directly with clients to understand their operations, pain points and opportunities.
- Translate business challenges into clear technical designs and delivery plans.
- Build AI agents, intelligent applications, automation and data-connected digital products.
- Develop retrieval-augmented generation and enterprise knowledge solutions.
- Integrate AI with Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Teams, cloud platforms, databases and business systems.
- Build secure APIs, services, data pipelines and reusable software components.
- Take prototypes and proofs of concept through to production.
- Implement testing, evaluation, monitoring and human approval controls for AI solutions.
- Design for security, privacy, governance, scalability and reliability from the start.
- Contribute to architecture decisions, estimates, proposals and client demonstrations.
- Create reusable accelerators, patterns and engineering standards for the RANZ Tech AI capability.
- Work with business analysts, adoption specialists, data engineers, security specialists and delivery partners.
- Share lessons, ideas and practical insights through internal sessions, client workshops and industry content.
What we are looking for You are a practical engineer who enjoys working with people as much as working with technology.
You are comfortable entering an unfamiliar environment, asking good questions, understanding how the business operates and building something useful quickly. You can explain technical decisions clearly and are willing to take ownership from initial discovery through to delivery.
You will ideally bring
- Strong software engineering fundamentals.
- Experience building production-grade applications, APIs or back-end services.
- Proficiency in Python and experience with modern development frameworks.
- Practical experience with generative AI, large language models, AI agents or machine learning solutions.
- Understanding of prompt design, embeddings, vector search, retrieval-augmented generation and model evaluation.
- Experience integrating applications with enterprise systems and data platforms.
- Knowledge of databases, data pipelines and structured and unstructured data.
- Experience with at least one major cloud platform such as Microsoft Azure, AWS or Google Cloud.
- Familiarity with Git, automated testing, code review and CI/CD.
- An understanding of identity, access control, security and enterprise governance.
- Strong communication skills and the confidence to work directly with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- The ability to manage ambiguity, adapt quickly and remain focused on delivery.
A degree in computer science, software engineering, data science or a related field is useful, but strong practical experience and demonstrated capability are equally valued. Experience that would be valuable
You do not need to have experience in every area, but exposure to some of the following would be an advantage:
- Microsoft Foundry or Azure AI services
- Microsoft Copilot Studio and Power Platform
- Snowflake, Cortex AI or enterprise data platforms
- Anthropic Claude, OpenAI or other foundation models
- Agent frameworks and orchestration tools
- Vector databases and enterprise search
- Infrastructure as code and containerised deployment
- LLMOps, model monitoring and AI evaluation
- Data governance, lineage and information security
- Consulting, client delivery or product implementation
Why join Ranz Tech You will have the opportunity to help shape an emerging AI capability rather than simply joining an established delivery team.
You will work on meaningful problems, influence technical direction and help define how AI solutions are designed and delivered across Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific.
You will also have the opportunity to:
- Work directly with clients and see the impact of your work.
- Build solutions across AI, data, cloud and digital transformation.
- Contribute to the growth of a modern AI consulting and engineering capability.
- Experiment with new technologies while applying strong engineering discipline.
- Develop toward senior engineering, architecture or AI consulting leadership.
- Build your professional profile through client engagement, events and thought leadership.
- Work with a collaborative team that values initiative, practical thinking and getting things done.
The kind of person who will succeed here You are curious, grounded and delivery-focused.
You do not build technology for the sake of it. You want to understand the problem, create something useful and help people adopt it successfully.
You are comfortable saying, “Let’s test it,” but you also know that a successful AI solution must be secure, governed, measurable and able to operate reliably in production.
AI. Data. Digital. From strategy to delivery.
Join us in building intelligent solutions with measurable impact.
