About The Work We're hiring French Canadian voice actors to record customer service lines for a partner organisation that builds text to speech (TTS) voice models. You'll read scripted lines the way you'd say them in real conversation. No character work and no performance. We want voices that sound like a real person being helpful. What we need from you A Canadian French speaker with a natural everyday Quebec accent.
European
French isn't a fit for this listing, though we have a separate one open for it.
A voice that reads as roughly 18 to 40 A warm, conversational tone that sounds like someone speaking rather than reading a script
Clean mic technique, without plosives or harsh sibilance
Your own recording. AI generated and AI assisted audio isn't accepted.
Your recording setup An acoustically treated space: a home studio, vocal booth or treated room. A quiet room on its own isn't enough.
No background noise, which means no air conditioning, computer fans, traffic, appliances or ambient hum
Minimal echo or room reflection A qualified external microphone, condenser or dynamic, USB or XLR. Laptop, phone, headset and earbud mics won't be accepted.
A dedicated audio interface if you're on XLR, such as a Focusrite Scarlett or equivalent A pop filter, recommended but not required If you're selected Your Recordings Will Need To Be WAV, 24-bit, 48 kHz, mono, unless we specify otherwise
Fully edited: no clicks, pops, mouth noises, plosives or harsh sibilance
True silence between phrases, with no audible room tone
Normalised levels and no clipping
Noise reduced where it helps,
without introducing artefacts How to record and submit Applications take a video, so either record straight into Hatch or upload a video file you've already made. You don't need to be on camera. A screen or a still image is fine, because we only listen to the audio.
Record it on the microphone and in the room you'd use for the job, with no processing: no plugins, compression, EQ or noise reduction. Your room needs to be quiet enough that the noise floor sits below -60 dB. We're assessing your voice and your audio quality, so what you actually say doesn't matter.
The upload field only takes video, so we can't accept a .wav at this stage. If you'd like us to hear your uncompressed audio as well, add a link to the WAV in your application. We're selecting voices over the next two weeks, so please apply by 14 August.
