Organisation;
Brightside Recruitment is currently working with a newly established organisation that represents, supports and advocates for community across a range of functions. Established through a landmark process, this newly formed body is standing up its governance, systems and operations for the first time – meaning this is a genuine ground-floor opportunity rather than stepping into someone else's structure. The organisation is guided by Cultural Authority and Community accountability rather than KPI-driven targets, and has a strong internal support function around governance, policy and administration so the right person can focus on leadership, not paperwork.
Role;
We are currently looking to fill the Chief Executive Officer role for this organisation. This is a senior executive position leading a multi-arm organisation through its establishment phase, working across the full life of the organisation – engaging with adults, young people and the broader community it serves.
Your main functions will include;
- Provide executive leadership across all functions of the organisation, translating the aspirations of elected/representative members into well-governed, well-run delivery, while protecting the organisation's independence and cultural legitimacy.
- Lead from, and be accountable to, First Peoples' ways of being, knowing and doing – working confidently under Cultural Authority and creating culturally secure,
culturally legitimate workplaces and engagement.
- Steward finances, systems and people through a period of significant growth and establishment, designing scalable structures that reflect self-determination principles and long‑term sustainability.
- Build and maintain high‑trust relationships with Community, Traditional Owner groups, Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations, government and other key institutions – including in contested or high‑scrutiny settings.
Requirements;
We are looking for candidates that have;
- Demonstrated executive leadership experience in complex, multi-part organisations, ideally within representative, statutory, for‑purpose or public sector bodies.
- Proven ability to set up and run strong statutory and cultural governance, including financial stewardship, risk and compliance, in a high‑scrutiny environment.
- Experience working effectively with elected or representative decision‑makers, maintaining clear boundaries between governance and executive delivery.
- Current Working with Children Check and National Police Check (or ability to obtain).
Extra Info
This organisation is very focused on cultural safety, community accountability and long‑term impact over short‑term metrics. They are looking for a mature, resilient leader who can hold boundaries under pressure, lead with humility, and help grow the organisation from establishment through to full operation.
