The Role

This is a 6 month contract role, in which as the Head of Commercial & Operations you will serve as the CEO's key operational partner, helping drive accountability, execution, and commercial performance across a national business undergoing a significant growth and transformation phase.

This is a true "second-in-command" leadership role for a hands-on operator who thrives on turning plans into outcomes. Working closely with the CEO, Executive Leadership Team and Board, you will take ownership of business priorities, drive organisational alignment, and ensure strategic initiatives are executed effectively across the business.

Rather than focusing on just strategy development, your role will be centred on operational leadership, sales effectiveness, performance management, and ensuring the organisation consistently delivers against its growth objectives.

Key responsibilities include

- Acting as a trusted partner to the CEO, driving execution across strategic and operational priorities.

- Creating alignment, accountability, and clear direction across a geographically dispersed workforce.

- Leading operational improvement initiatives that enhance efficiency, scalability, and business performance.

- Driving sales effectiveness, commercial discipline, and revenue growth initiatives.

- Developing and embedding KPI frameworks, management reporting, and performance accountability systems.

- Translating business plans into actionable priorities with explicit ownership, timelines, and measurable outcomes.

- Identifying and addressing operational bottlenecks, underperformance, and execution gaps.

- Working closely with leaders across sales, marketing, operations, finance, and technology to ensure organisational alignment.

- Driving process improvement, standardisation, and operational maturity across the business.

- Supporting Board and executive reporting through clear communication of progress, risks, and key business metrics.

- Building a culture of ownership, pace, accountability, and continuous improvement.

The Candidate

You are a commercially minded executive who has built a reputation for getting things done. You combine strong operational leadership capability with commercial acumen and have a proven ability to drive performance through people, process, and disciplined execution.

Most importantly, you are not a pure strategist, consultant, or adviser. You are someone who enjoys being close to the business, solving problems, influencing stakeholders, and delivering tangible outcomes.

You will bring

- 10-15 years of leadership experience in operational, commercial, general management, COO, or equivalent roles.

- A proven track record leading business improvement, turnaround, transformation, or growth initiatives.

- Strong experience across operations, sales, commercial performance, or business management disciplines.

- Demonstrated success driving accountability and performance across teams and leaders.

- Experience implementing business plans and delivering measurable commercial outcomes.

- Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills, with the ability to build credibility across all levels of an organisation.

- Strong leadership capability with the confidence to challenge, support, and motivate teams.

- A practical, hands-on approach and willingness to roll up your sleeves when required.

- The ability to create structure, prioritisation, and momentum in fast-moving environments.

- Strong commercial judgement and an outcomes-focused mindset.

Experience in private equity-backed,

founder-led, multi-site, distributed workforce, franchise, hospitality, entertainment, events, field-services, or service-based businesses will be highly regarded.

Why Join?

This is a unique opportunity to step into a highly influential leadership role and become the operational engine behind an ambitious growth agenda.

You will have the opportunity to:

- Commence immediately

- Work directly alongside the CEO and Board.

- Play a critical role in shaping the future direction of the business.

- Drive meaningful operational and commercial transformation.

- Lead organisation-wide performance improvement initiatives.

- Build the systems, processes, and accountability frameworks needed for the next phase of growth.

- Join a business with strong investor backing and significant upside potential.

- Make a visible impact on business performance and long-term value creation.

The Organisation

Our client is a national service-based business with an established market presence, strong customer relationships, and a significant growth opportunity ahead. With a clear strategic direction, supportive ownership group, and commitment to operational excellence, the organisation is focused on strengthening performance, improving commercial capability, and building a scalable platform for future growth.

As part of this journey, the business is seeking a high-calibre operational leader who can partner with the CEO, bring focus and discipline to execution, and help unlock the organisation's full potential.
