Our client is seeking an accomplished communication leader to shape and elevate the public voice of one of Australia’s most forward‑thinking, modern, research-led universities located in the heart of Australia’s fastest‑growing region.

Reporting to the Chief Marketing Officer and working in close partnership with senior executives, you will play a pivotal role in strengthening reputation, deepening engagement and advancing institutional priorities. You are a strategic storyteller and influential leader who brings clarity, confidence and cohesion to the University’s narrative. This role leads an integrated function spanning external media, social media, internal communication and issues management, ensuring every channel contributes to a unified, compelling story about achievements, research excellence, student success and community impact.

- Strategic storytelling: Identify, shape and amplify narratives that reflect the University’s mission, values and impact.
- Media leadership: Build trusted relationships with journalists, drive proactive media engagement, and position the University as a thought leader in higher education and regional transformation.
- Integrated communication: Lead a cohesive, high‑performing function that unites media, social and internal communication to deliver measurable outcomes.




- Issues and reputation management: Provide authoritative leadership during emerging issues and crises, ensuring timely, accurate and strategic communication.
- Team leadership: Inspire, develop and empower a team of senior advisors and coordinators, fostering creativity, accountability and continuous improvement.
- Stakeholder engagement: Collaborate across faculties, research institutes, government, industry, alumni and community partners to amplify the University’s voice and influence.

You are a energetic, proactive communicator with extensive experience in media, communication or public affairs within complex organisations. You bring:

- A strong track record of building trusted relationships with journalists and key stakeholders.
- Expertise in integrated media strategies that enhance share of voice and strengthen positive sentiment.
- A natural storytelling instinct and the ability to translate complex initiatives into compelling, accessible narratives.
- Leadership capability that inspires confidence, trust and high performance.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- The ability to navigate nuanced environments and manage multiple priorities with clarity and composure.
