Lake Mac Council is seeking an experienced Heavy Vehicle Mechanics in to join our skilled Workshop team for an immediate start.

Are you a skilled Heavy Vehicle Mechanic (Diesel Mechanic) who takes pride in keeping essential services moving? We’re looking for an experienced, customer focused mechanic to join our Workshop Team at Lake Macquarie City Council.

In this hands-on role, you’ll be responsible for maintaining and repairing Council’s diverse fleet and plant assets, ensuring they remain safe, reliable and fit for purpose. Your work will include scheduled and reactive servicing, repairs, modifications and RMS registration and compliance inspections, using the latest diagnostic scan tools and technology.

You’ll join a dedicated and diverse team of highly skilled automotive professionals who take pride in our strong reputation for safety compliance, efficiency and quality workmanship. Working closely with internal customers, you’ll deliver responsive, high-quality service while upholding our commitment to safety, quality assurance and integrity in everything you do.

This exciting role will:

- Ensure plant and fleet servicing, repairs, modifications, RMS registration and Safety inspections are completed in accordance with NSW statutory requirements, National Heavy Vehicle Accreditation Scheme (NHVAS) standards and Council’s processes;
- Carry out automotive air conditioning service and repairs;
- Support the training, direct and supervise apprentices by demonstrating high quality work, safe work practices and fault diagnostics;
- Minimising unplanned maintenance of Council’s assets by reporting to team supervisor observed faults/defects and suggesting improvements to procedures, practices or new methods;
- Carry out risk assessments for all work performed and contribute to the development of work method statements outlining safe ways to work.

You will be based at our well-equipped Depot Workshop in Boolaroo NSW but may be required to work and travel across multiple sites.

LET’S HEAR ABOUT YOU

- You will hold Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical trade qualification and Automotive air conditioning experience and related qualification(s)
- Having previously worked within similar position you have experience in servicing and repairing heavy and light vehicles and small and heavy plant equipment and machinery will see you stand out from the crowd.
- Holding a current HR drivers' licence is a must.
- You currently hold a RMS unrestricted vehicle examiner’s certificate or are willing and able to obtain the certificate.
- Have an understanding of computer maintenance management systems (CMMS)
- TAFE or industry post trade qualifications in hydraulic systems, electronic controls, braking systems and/or welding are desirable.
- Most of all you're a team player with a positive can-do attitude

- Market-competitive salary from $78,934 to $91,735 per annum plus 12% superannuation
- The permanent position will also obtain a market premium of up to $4,944 per annum which is reflective of the current competitive market and is subject to review in September 2027.

- Commencing salary set in line with skills and experience with annual reviews available to support movement through the salary range
- 35 hours working across a 4 day work week.
