ISR Cloud Systems Engineer (AWS) – Design the systems that support the mission.
Location: Moorabbin Airport, in Melbourne’s South-East
Position: Full Time Permanent (1 Position Available)
Microflite Aviation is seeking an experienced ISR Cloud Systems Engineer (AWS) to design, maintain and support secure, reliable and scalable cloud systems supporting our Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) operations.
This is a hands-on engineering role for an experienced cloud professional who can work across AWS infrastructure, serverless applications, automation, networking, cybersecurity and operational support environments.
The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the availability, security and performance of mission-critical cloud systems used across aviation and operational environments. This role requires a practical, adaptable engineer who can work across infrastructure, applications and security layers while supporting systems that operate in time-critical environments.

What You’ll Do:
- Design, configure and maintain secure AWS cloud infrastructure and services.
- Manage AWS networking and infrastructure components including VPCs, subnets, routing, security groups, EC2, Application Load Balancers, Route 53 and ACM certificates.
- Develop, maintain and troubleshoot serverless and event-driven applications using AWS Lambda, Step Functions, EventBridge, SQS and other AWS services.
- Develop Python scripts and automation tools to improve deployment, monitoring, configuration management and system recovery.
- Build and maintain Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, CloudFormation or similar technologies.
- Support CI/CD processes and developer workflows using tools such as GitHub Actions.
- Configure and maintain CloudWatch dashboards, logging, monitoring, alerting and automated notifications.
- Administer and harden Linux-based cloud infrastructure.
- Implement secure IAM roles, policies and access controls using least-privilege principles.
- Maintain encryption, secrets management, certificates and secure application configurations.
- Develop and test backup, disaster recovery and business continuity processes.
- Investigate and resolve outages, application failures, security events and performance issues.
- Support secure connectivity between AWS environments, office networks, aircraft systems, remote operating locations and customer environments.
- Monitor AWS resource usage and identify opportunities for cost optimisation, rightsizing and performance improvements.
- Maintain technical documentation including system diagrams, configuration records and recovery procedures.
- Provide occasional after-hours support during operational periods.
What You’ll Bring:
The successful applicant will have demonstrated experience in:
- AWS certification, such as Solutions Architect, Developer or SysOps Administrator.
- AWS architecture, including VPC, IAM, EC2, ALB, Route 53 and ACM.
- AWS Lambda and event-driven services such as EventBridge, SQS and SNS.
- Strong Python scripting and automation capability.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools including Terraform or CloudFormation.
- Experience with CloudWatch monitoring, logging and alerting.
- Knowledge of cloud security hardening and IAM administration.
- Experience developing backup, disaster recovery and high-availability solutions.
- Understanding of CI/CD processes using GitHub Actions, AWS CodePipeline or similar tools.
- Experience with AWS cost monitoring and optimisation.
- Linux systems administration experience.
- Strong understanding of cloud networking, routing, DNS, firewalls and secure connectivity.
- Ability to troubleshoot cloud infrastructure, applications, APIs and system integrations.
- Experience supporting production and operationally critical systems.
- Is an Australian Citizen, with the ability to obtain and maintain required aviation, airport or government security clearances.
Desirable Experience
- Experience with API Gateway, S3, CloudFront, RDS, DynamoDB and Step Functions.
- Experience with Docker, ECS, EKS or Kubernetes.
- Knowledge of DevSecOps practices and automated security testing.
- Familiarity with the Australian Government Essential Eight, ISM or IRAP frameworks.
- Experience within aviation, defence, emergency services or government environments.
- Experience supporting geospatial, imagery, sensor or mission data systems.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365 or hybrid cloud environments.
