The Livestock Hand plays an important role within the livestock management team, supporting the day-to-day care, handling and welfare of cattle. Based in Coonamble, New South Wales, this permanent full-time position offers hands-on experience in livestock operations, animal health, safe work practices and general site duties. It is well suited to someone looking to build practical skills and develop a long-term career in the livestock industry.
Responsibilities:
- Monitor livestock daily to support animal health, welfare and early identification of issues.
- Observe cattle for signs of illness, injury, lameness, abnormal behaviour or changes in condition.
- Report livestock health, welfare, feed, water, pen or facility concerns to the relevant supervisor.
- Assist with the protected handling, movement and drafting of livestock as required.
- Support animal health activities,
treatments and calving-related observations under the direction of experienced staff.
- Maintain accurate records of livestock observations, treatments, movements and other relevant information.
- Follow biosecurity, animal welfare and workplace health and safety procedures at all times.
Qualifications:
- No formal education required; however, a background in agriculture or animal husbandry is advantageous.
- Entry-level position; previous experience with livestock is preferred but not essential.
- Basic understanding of animal care and welfare practices.
- Ability to work effectively in a team and follow instructions.
- Strong communication skills and a willingness to learn.
- Physical fitness and the ability to perform manual tasks in various weather conditions.
