Join Saab Australia as a Senior Technical Writer – Editor. We are seeking a motivated and skilled Senior Technical Writer to join our high-performing team in creating clear, accurate, and high‑quality technical documentation to support mission‑critical defence systems. Reporting to the Technical Publications Team Lead, you will develop and maintain workflows to ensure consistent and accurate technical publications and support/mentor the Technical Writing team members.

Key Responsibilities

- Develop operator and maintainer manuals with minimal supervision.
- Develop and maintain Work Instructions and Style Guides to ensure consistency across publications.
- Lead documentation initiatives, including peer reviews and quality assurance of technical publications.
- Collaborate with engineers, developers, and stakeholders to gather source information and deliver customer‑aligned content.
- Provide mentorship and training to junior writers, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing.
- Contribute to tender submissions and estimate writing efforts as needed.
- Ensure documentation aligns with defence standards and integrates seamlessly with ILS and LSA outputs.

Experience & Skills

- Minimum seven years of experience in a Technical Writing role within defence, manufacturing, engineering, or technology sectors.
- Experience with S1000D publication development.
- Experience developing and editing large and/or complex documents to an advanced level in Microsoft Word, Adobe FrameMaker and/or S1000D tools.
- Proficiency with PDF editing, graphics tools, and configuration management processes.




- Understanding of methodologies for the development of documentation for hardware and software manuals.
- Experience implementing Defence documentation practices and standards.
- Familiarity with web‑based publishing and online help content creation.

Security Clearance

As a Defence security clearance is required for this role, applicants must be Australian citizens and eligible to obtain and maintain an NV1 clearance.
