Your Contribution

Provide operational leadership and management of a science policy and/or project team.

Apply specialist knowledge and expertise to undertake complex analysis, liaison and negotiation on science policy, legislative/regulatory and planning matters that are of strategic importance to the government.

Manage the team's legislative agenda for:

Biodiscovery, including ongoing administration, business improvement, review processes and engagement with First Nations peoples, research organisations and Commonwealth agencies and

Gene technology, including legislation, reforms, policy and operational matters and engagement with research organisations and commonwealth agencies, including the Office of the Gene Technology Regulator (OGTR).

Work with other Managers in the team to deliver on the team's science policy agenda.

Lead the development of complex, well-researched, and thorough documents including policy papers, project plans, cabinet submissions, briefs, reports and submissions.

Lead a team of staff,



including providing direction, setting work objectives and managing workloads, supporting the team through change, managing performance and supporting team members' development and career goals.

Promote a safe, respectful and inclusive workplace that is free from bullying, discrimination and harassment.

About You The ability to think strategically, gather and critically analyse information and alternative options, and provide direction and communicate expected outcomes to others.

The ability to plan and manage projects to completion, harness appropriate knowledge and skills, manage and respond to changes in requirements, and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.

Demonstrated public service professionalism and probity, willingness to engage with risk and show personal courage, commitment to action, resilience, selfawareness and a commitment to personal development.

Proven high-level written communication skills including the preparation of complex, sensitive materials, and communicating with influence and a high level of conflict management, problem solving and negotiation, strategic policy analysis, development and legislative interpretation and implementation.

A high level of scientific and technical knowledge and thorough administrative decision-making skills, which include active consultation and thought leadership in policy.

Proven skills managing and leading staff, including leading a team to achieve quality outcomes and a commitment to supporting staff development.

A thorough understanding of the organisational structure, the functions and business of the department and the department's divisions, the corporate governance framework and the ability to use this information to achieve outcomes.
