Overview
Full‑time, Continuing Salary Level HEW 9 + 17% Superannuation. Based at the Melbourne CBD campuses; may be required to work or be based at other university campuses. Applications close: 3 Aug pm.
Responsibilities
The Senior Advisor, Vocational Education Policy & Strategy plays a pivotal role in shaping the strategic direction of RMIT's College of Vocational Education. Reporting to the Director, Governance & Strategic Initiatives, you will:
- Provide strategic policy advice and lead key initiatives.
- Strengthen the College's engagement with government and external stakeholders.
- Analyse emerging policy and reform across the vocational education sector, preparing high‑quality submissions, executive briefings and reports.
- Provide evidence‑based advice to support strategic decision‑making.
- Identify opportunities to enhance the College's external impact and influence through effective policy and stakeholder engagement.
- Support the College's governance, reporting and risk functions, coordinating high‑quality papers and submissions for university committees and executive forums.
Qualifications
We require:
- Strategic thinking capability, including the ability to position initiatives within a broader organisational and external context and identify connections across multiple priorities.
- Highly developed conceptual, analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to synthesise complex and ambiguous information into clear, evidence‑based insights and recommendations.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and effectively to diverse audiences, and to produce high‑quality professional materials within tight timeframes.
- Ability to influence, build relationships and collaborate effectively with senior stakeholders, including executives, government representatives and external partners.
- Proven experience in analysing policy and evidence to develop clear and credible policy positions, submissions and strategic advice.
- Experience operating in complex organisational and policy environments, with strong judgement and the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Working knowledge of legislative processes and government policy frameworks at state and/or federal level is desirable.
- Knowledge of the vocational education and training sector and/or post‑secondary education landscape is advantageous.
- Relevant tertiary qualification or significant relevant experience in a mid‑senior level role in either the education sector or relevant industry.
