Bid Manager / Business Development — Specialist Infrastructure Consultancy

Newly created role — take the bid and BD load off Directors and senior engineers. Part bid writer, part BD, part financial oversight — a genuinely varied role. Genuine flexibility — hours, hybrid working, full‑time or part‑time shaped around you.

One of Brisbane's longest‑standing specialist structural and civil engineering consultancies, this firm has decades of quietly building a reputation for the quality, economy and constructability of its designs across civil, transport, water, marine, defence and institutional projects. Management still designs every day, alongside the team, not just in review. There are no doors on offices. Mentoring is a genuine hallmark, not a policy line, and the culture leans hard into technical excellence balanced with creative thinking and commercial nous. Until recently, a fee proposal and a phone call was usually enough to win work. As the business has grown into wider specialties and taken on bigger, more complex projects, formal tenders have become part of the picture, and the load has fallen on Directors and senior technical staff. Weeks per submission, on top of their day‑jobs, is costly in time and money. A recent role is being created to own this properly.

Opportunity

This is a genuinely hybrid position: bid writing, business development support, and a layer of project financial oversight.



You will work closely with the technical leads who currently carry this work, pulling their expertise into strong, well‑structured submissions, without losing the technical credibility that makes their bids competitive.

You'll:

- Lead the preparation and writing of tender and bid submissions, working closely with Directors and senior engineers to capture their technical input
- Keep a watching brief across projects in the office, flagging where things need attention
- Keep an eye on project financials – checking invoices are going out and bills are being paid
- Build relationships and BD processes that support a growing, increasingly diverse pipeline of work

What You'll Bring

- Bid writing or business development experience from a consulting or contracting background – you know what a strong technical submission looks like
- Alternatively, a technical background (engineering or similar) where you enjoy the writing, BD and commercial side more than day‑to‑day design or delivery
- Some exposure to project management or project financials is valuable
- Looking for a long‑term home, not a stepping stone – this firm wants to invest in someone who grows with them
- Flexibility around hours, hybrid arrangements, and full‑time or part‑time structure can be shaped around the right person
