We are seeking for a New South Wales state correspondent to join our reporters team in the Sydney office to lead coverage of New South Wales news for Guardian Australia’s state and national audiences.
This role is being offered on a full-time, permanent basis, requiring occasional weekend work with early starts or late finishes. In this role you will… Lead coverage of the New South Wales news agenda for Guardian Australia’s state and national audiences by breaking news and writing features and analysis on topics including, but not limited to, state politics
Pursue complex stories in consultation with editors, through multiple sources, using different channels of investigation
Liaise with senior editors on story ideas/choices, coverage, planning and execute priorities as directed by the newsdesk
Nurture contacts, including in specialist areas Help to cover stories across multiple formats, including podcasts, liveblogs, video and interactive reports You’ll bring…. Knowledge and experience 5+ years demonstrated experience in initiating and breaking news stories, investigations and features to deadline, preferably in NSW
Track record in leading coverage of stories, including politics and broader issues, preferably in NSW
Experience of working in a fast-changing and high-pressure digital news environment, Able to work with editors on planning coverage Good understanding of media law Skills / behaviours Excellent writing, communication, interpersonal skills
Ability to deal with the stresses associated with tight deadlines
Track record of building strong internal relationships
Strong news sense and ability to generate fresh ideas and angles
Ability to multitask
