About SET
Specialised Engineering Technologies (SET) delivers specialised electrical and mechanical services, overhauls and skilled trade labour to the NSW underground coal mining sector. We are a growing, well-respected business that prides itself on doing quality work, looking after our people, and building long-term relationships with the mines we service. We are expanding our full-time-equivalent (FTE) trade labour operations and are looking for an NSW Underground Operations Coordinator to help lead and grow this side of the business.
About the Role
This is a hands-on coordination role for someone who knows the underground coal environment inside out and wants to step up into a role where they can both stay connected to the tools and help build and manage a growing team of skilled tradespeople. You will be the go-to person keeping our on-site FTE and project-based trade crews running smoothly — looking after our people, maintaining solid relationships with the mines, and actively helping us grow into new sites and opportunities. You will still get your hands dirty when the job calls for it, but your real value is in coordination, relationships and growth.
What you will be doing
Coordinating and supporting our full-time-equivalent and project-based trade labour across underground coal sites in NSW
Regularly checking in with our on-site crews — looking after their welfare, retention and day-to-day needs
Building and maintaining strong relationships with mine site contacts, supervisors and management
Identifying and helping win new opportunities — new sites, new scopes,
new roles to bring into the SET team
Helping recruit, onboard and mentor new tradespeople into the crew
Jumping on the tools when required to support the team or cover critical work
Being a key point of contact between the mines, our crews and SET management What we are looking for A trade qualification — electrical trade preferred, mechanical trade also considered
Currently (or very recently) working in the NSW underground coal mining space — you know the environment, the sites and the standards
Solid coordination and organisational skills — you can juggle people, sites and priorities
Genuinely good with people — the sort of person crews trust and mines want to deal with
Still happy to be on the tools when it is needed A growth mindset — you spot opportunities and go after them
Willing to travel to various sites across NSW as required
Valid driver licence and current underground coal competencies What is in it for you
Healthy performance bonuses tied to revenue growth — the more you help the business grow, the more you earn. A genuine opportunity to share in the success you help create.
Flexible engagement — take it on as full-time, casual or subcontract, whatever suits your situation.
A key leadership role in a growing business where your work directly shapes the team
Real autonomy and the backing of a supportive management team
