Operations Manager – General Practice
Permanent Part-Time | Hybrid Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced and commercially minded Operations Manager to support the growth of our general practices.
This is not a traditional Practice Manager role. The position does not include payroll, staff rostering, or general HR responsibilities. Its primary focus is to work closely with our GPs and practice teams to grow patient numbers, improve appointment-book utilisation, optimise appropriate billing opportunities, and support the ongoing development of our practices.
The successful applicant will report directly to the Chief Operating Officer and will be provided with the resources, support, and autonomy required to achieve measurable results.
Once effective processes and procedures have been established, the role may transition to a hybrid working model.
Key responsibilities
- Liaise regularly with GPs to understand their availability, preferences, and appointment-book requirements
- Monitor appointment books and implement strategies to improve utilisation
- Work with reception and operational teams to increase patient bookings and reduce appointment gaps
- Identify opportunities to improve patient growth, retention, and service delivery
- Review GP billing patterns and identify appropriate billing and item-number optimisation opportunities
- Assist with developing and implementing practice growth strategies
- Support GP engagement and recruitment initiatives
- Report on appointment-book performance, patient growth, revenue, and operational outcomes directly to the COO
Who this role will suit
This position will suit someone who:
- Has previous experience within the Australian general practice industry
- Understands Medicare billing, GP item numbers, and appropriate billing optimisation
- Has a strong understanding of how GP appointment books operate
- Is commercially minded and motivated by measurable practice growth
- Has excellent communication and relationship-management skills
- Can confidently liaise with doctors, reception teams, and senior management
- Is organised, proactive, and able to work independently
- Is keen to learn, develop professionally, and grow with the organisation
Previous experience as a Practice Manager, Assistant Practice Manager, Senior Medical Receptionist, GP Liaison Officer, or in a similar general practice operations role would be highly regarded.
Demonstrated results
Applicants should be able to provide examples of measurable outcomes achieved in previous roles, such as:
- Increasing practice revenue or improving the overall bottom line

- Successfully introducing new services, clinics, or patient-growth initiatives
- Improving recall, reminder, and patient-retention processes
- Increasing GP capacity, consulting sessions, or operating hours
- Recruiting and successfully onboarding GPs
- Developing processes that improved efficiency, productivity, or patient access
Applicants are encouraged to include specific results in their application, such as percentage growth, revenue increases, improved utilisation rates, patient-number growth, or other relevant KPIs.
Professional growth and remuneration
This is an opportunity to join a growing medical organisation in a specialised operations role with genuine potential for career development and career progression.
In addition to the agreed remuneration package, the successful applicant will be eligible for separate performance-based remuneration for successful GP recruitment.
