Reporting to the Lead Mechanical Engineer, with heavy involvement in and from the systems and electronics leads, your: Key Responsibilities Shall Be Product Design and Development
Design opto-mechanical assemblies, mechanisms, housings, mounts, fixtures, and support structures.
Develop detailed 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, bill of materials (BOMs), and technical documentation.
Design products considering vibration, shock, thermal expansion, alignment stability, manufacturability, and environmental requirements.
Conduct design reviews and provide recommendations for performance improvements and risk reduction.
Support concept development, trade studies, and feasibility assessments.
Optical System
Integration
Collaborate with external Optical Engineers to integrate lenses, mirrors, detectors, cameras, and laser systems into mechanical assemblies.
Develop alignment methodologies and precision mounting solutions.
Perform tolerance stack-up analysis and optical alignment verification.
Define optical and mechanical interface requirements and specifications. Analysis and Simulation
Perform structural, thermal, vibration, and finite element analysis (FEA).
Evaluate system performance under operational and environmental conditions.
Assess mechanical impacts on optical performance and system reliability.
Support design verification through modelling and simulation activities. Prototyping, Testing and Validation
Develop and support prototype builds.
Define and execute engineering test plans.
Conduct verification, validation, environmental,
and qualification testing.
Analyse test data and implement corrective actions where required.
Troubleshoot optical and mechanical integration issues. Manufacturing and Sustainment Support
Provide technical support to manufacturing and assembly teams.
Identify opportunities for cost reduction and design optimisation.
Support engineering change requests and product lifecycle activities.
Assist with supplier engagement, component selection, and qualification activities.
Support production readiness reviews and first article inspections.

Required Qualifications Education Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical, Mechatronics, Aerospace or equivalent).
Postgraduate qualification in Optics, Photonics, Systems Engineering, or related field desirable.
Experience 5-10+ years' experience in mechanical or opto-mechanical engineering.
Experience designing precision mechanical systems.
Experience supporting complex product development programmes.
Experience working with multidisciplinary engineering teams Behavioural Competencies Strong analytical and problem-solving capability.
