Permanent Part-Time | Two to Three Days per Week | Flexible Weekday Hours

SEQ Laboratories is seeking a degree-qualified Laboratory Chemist to join our growing environmental water testing laboratory in Clontarf.

This is a permanent part-time position offering approximately 16 to 24 hours per week, generally worked across two to three days between Wednesday and Friday. The final work pattern and daily start and finish times can be structured around both the successful applicant’s availability and the laboratory’s operational requirements.

The role offers regular weekday hours, no weekend work and the opportunity to join a modern laboratory as it progresses through the final stages of its initial NATA accreditation.

About the Role

Working within a small and collaborative laboratory team, you will perform routine chemistry testing and support the ongoing operation, quality and development of the laboratory’s chemistry function. You will report to the Laboratory Manager and will be expected to manage your own workload and work independently. Other laboratory personnel will also be onsite.

For an applicant with relevant experience, there will be genuine scope to contribute to analytical methods, quality systems and the continued development of the laboratory’s chemistry capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

- Prepare and analyse environmental water samples using approved laboratory methods.
- Operate laboratory instruments and complete routine calibration and quality-control checks.
- Prepare reagents, standards and other materials required for testing.
- Accurately record analytical data, calculations and quality-control results.
- Identify and investigate unusual results, quality-control failures or instrument issues.




- Assist with routine instrument maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Maintain chemical, reagent and consumable stock levels.
- Follow laboratory safety, chemical-handling and contamination-control requirements.
- Support method verification, validation and continuous-improvement activities.
- Where relevant to the applicant’s experience, contribute to NATA assessments, corrective actions and ISO/IEC 17025 compliance activities.
- Work collaboratively with the Laboratory Manager and microbiology team to meet operational priorities and reporting timeframes.

Qualifications

Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s degree or higher in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Environmental Science with a substantial chemistry component.

Skills and Experience

The following experience will be highly regarded but is not essential:

- Previous experience in a commercial analytical laboratory.
- Environmental or water-testing laboratory experience.
- Experience working within an ISO/IEC 17025 quality management system.
- Exposure to NATA assessments, audits or accreditation submissions.
- Experience with method development, verification or validation.
- Experience operating analytical laboratory instrumentation.
- Familiarity with LIMS systems.
