As part of our Systems Delivery Group, the Product Owner (PO) is a member of an agile team who is responsible for maximising the value of a product. They act as the primary customer advocate, connecting business and development teams, and ensuring that product development delivers measurable value.

Responsibilities - Support the prioritisation of module and component development activities, bug fixes, and documentation updates by working closely with the software team to ensure timely completion of tasks.

- Decide what functionality is in‑scope and what can be left out‑of‑scope, providing insight into system‑wide impacts.
- Collaborate with systems engineering and software development teams to ensure smooth execution of product development.
- Communicate system requirements and system design – including HMI and functional chains – clearly and ensure all teams are aligned on deliverables.
- Provide system‑level technical support to Team Leads in the development of software plans.
- Review software documents (requirements, design, test plans, and test results) to confirm the needs of the system are satisfied.
- Support team planning (quarterly, sprint), reviews, and retrospectives, assisting with refining system features, technical dependencies, and ensuring goals are met efficiently.
- Where applicable, align planning and evolution with global product design.
- Manage flexible work arrangements such as hybrid work from home / office and a 9‑day fortnight.

Qualifications Education - Tertiary qualifications (bachelor’s degree) in a relevant discipline such as Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related fields.

- Equivalent relevant experience, preferably within the defence industry.

Experience - Three or more years of experience in Systems Engineering within software‑intensive systems.

- Experience across the full engineering lifecycle in Requirements Management, System Architecture, Systems Integration,



and/or Verification and Validation. Knowledge - Good understanding of systems engineering principles and practices.
- Familiarity with complex systems (e.g., military systems) or related defence technologies is desirable.
- Familiarity with System Engineering in an ASDEFCON context is desirable.

Technical

Skills - Proficiency in using systems engineering software tools and simulation environments (e.g., DOORS, Model‑Based Systems Engineering tools).

- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills. Communication - Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively with cross‑functional teams. Adaptability - Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to current technologies and methodologies. Clearance - Applicants must be Australian citizens and hold or be able to obtain an Australian Defence Security Clearance, preferably to NV1 level.
