Director of Athlete Experience, Sport & Venues

Reports To: Chief Executive Officer

Location: Moncton and Saint John, New Brunswick

Anticipated Start Date: Fall 2026 (or as determined)

The 2029 Canada Games in Moncton and Saint John will bring together thousands of athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers, and visitors from across the country to celebrate sport, culture, and community. This is a unique opportunity to be part of a once-in-a-generation event that will leave a lasting legacy for New Brunswick and Canada.

Position Overview

As a member of the Executive Leadership Team, the Director of Athlete Experience, Sport & Venues provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for all athlete‑facing, sport‑related, and venue‑related functions of the 2029 Canada Games. The successful candidate will be responsible for the planning, coordination, and delivery of athlete services, sport competitions, Games Villages, and all competition and non‑competition venue operations across the Moncton and Saint John regions. Working closely with the Canada Games Council, National and Provincial Sport Organizations, venue partners, municipalities, and internal functional areas, the Director will help ensure an exceptional athlete experience and the successful execution of all sport and venue operations.

The Director serves as a key connector across multiple operational areas, ensuring effective collaboration, communication, and integration between interdependent functions throughout the planning and delivery of the Games.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To

Athlete Experience

- Lead the planning and operation of the Canada Games Villages in Moncton and Saint John
- Ensure all athlete accommodations, dining, wellness, and support services meet Canada Games standards
- Oversee athlete‑focused services including:
- Accommodation services
- Dining operations
- Athlete lounges and gathering spaces
- Medical and wellness services




- Equipment storage and logistics
- Laundry and related support services

- Ensure a secure, welcoming, accessible, and athlete‑centered environment for all accredited participants

Sport Operations

- Lead the planning and delivery of all sport competitions and training environments
- Develop sport‑specific operational plans in collaboration with National Sport Organizations (NSOs), Provincial/Territorial Sport Organizations (PTSOs), and the Canada Games Council
- Ensure all competition and training venues meet required sport and Canada Games standards
- Coordinate venue readiness activities and test events
- Lead development of the overall Games competition schedule in collaboration with key stakeholders
- Support sport technical requirements, competition management, scheduling, and operational readiness

Venue Operations

- Lead the planning, readiness, and operation of all competition and non‑competition venues for the 2029 Canada Games
- Develop and implement venue operating plans in collaboration with municipal partners, facility operators, and internal functional areas
- Ensure all venues meet Canada Games Council standards, accessibility requirements, safety regulations, and operational expectations
- Oversee venue infrastructure planning, equipment requirements, temporary overlays, and operational logistics
- Coordinate venue readiness reviews, inspections, and test events
- Manage relationships with venue owners, operators, municipalities, and facility partners
- Ensure effective integration of venue operations with transportation, security, medical services, technology, volunteer services, and sport operations




- Support the planning and execution of venue transition and decommissioning activities following the Games
- Contribute to venue legacy planning and post‑Games utilization strategies

Leadership and Team Management

- Recruit, lead, mentor, and support staff, contractors, and volunteers within the Athlete Experience, Sport & Venues portfolio
- Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, inclusion, and excellence
- Ensure effective workforce planning and volunteer integration
- Manage external vendors and service providers supporting athlete, sport, and venue operations

Cross‑Functional Collaboration

- Work closely with Transportation, Volunteer Services, Medical Services, Technology, Ceremonies, Marketing & Communications, and other operational areas
- Ensure alignment between athlete experience, sport operations, venue operations, and Games‑time service delivery
- Work closely with host municipalities and venue owners to ensure coordinated planning, capital project alignment, venue readiness, and successful Games‑time operations
- Support integrated planning and decision‑making across the organization

Financial and Operational Management

- Develop and manage operational budgets within the Athlete Experience, Sport & Venues portfolio
- Monitor expenditures and ensure responsible financial stewardship
- Oversee venue operating budgets, venue readiness expenditures, and facility‑related contracts and service agreements
- Identify risks and implement mitigation strategies
- Ensure compliance with Canada Games Council standards and Host Society policies

Legacy and Community Impact

- Contribute to the development of lasting sport, volunteer, infrastructure, and community legacies
- Support initiatives related to sustainability, accessibility, official languages, diversity, equity, inclusion, and Indigenous engagement
- Help ensure the Games leave a meaningful and positive impact throughout New Brunswick
