Organisation ProfileNew England Landcare Network Inc (NELN) is a regional Landcare Network representing four member Landcare groups, including Glen Innes Natural Resources Advisory Committee, Granite Borders Landcare Committee Inc., Gwydir and Macintyre Resources Management Committee and Southern New England Landcare Ltd.Its purpose is to represent and advocate for Landcare in the New England Tablelands and foster collaboration and coordinated actions towards sustainable land management, environmental conservation and empowered communities.Position/Role ObjectivesAboriginal Landcare Coordinators (ALC) are responsible for supporting, and will work collaboratively with, Regional and Local Landcare Coordinators and Landcare Groups to build cultural knowledge and awareness.The ALC will assist Local Landcare Groups across the region to engage with Aboriginal Communities with the objective of establishing mutually beneficial and culturally responsive land management practices.The ALC will support the creation of culturally responsive environments that embed Aboriginal practices at the centre of their program and service design. ALCs will participate in cultural Community of Practice activities to grow their cultural and professional knowledge and share best practice ideas across the ALC network.
Key DeliverablesCommunity Network - identify and establish regional/local Aboriginal community networksCreate links between Landcare activities/projects, Aboriginal communities and other stakeholdersFoster collaborative participation to create mutually beneficial land management practices and projectsEncourage and support opportunities for co-designed activities in relation to the above criteriaMonitor, evaluate and report on activities and outcomesProvide cultural support and knowledge sharing to groups, networks, Landcarers and landholders to improve understanding of Aboriginal practicesParticipate in Aboriginal Community of Practice activitiesWork with the Regional Landcare Coordinator to support regional priorities including coordination of cultural training and events, production of a cultural guide booklet, and contribute to development of a Reconciliation Action PlanRegular communication including with Landcare groups, Aboriginal communities and volunteers
Reporting/Supervision ArrangementsThe ALC position reports to the NELN Chair and is supported by the NELN board and/or steering committee.The successful applicant will be working in a broader Landcare network with support available. The Aboriginal Landcare Coordinator will work closely with the New England Landcare Network and other Landcare group’s staff and Board members, along with a broader network of Local Landcare Coordinators, Regional Landcare Coordinators and LLS staff across the New England and surrounding regions.Aboriginal Landcare Coordinators will have access to an Aboriginal Landcare Community of Practice and support from Landcare NSW’s Aboriginal Partnerships Managers.
Selection CriteriaPlease address each of the following criteria:Identify as Aboriginal and meet the requirements of identifying as Aboriginal:Be AboriginalIdentify as Aboriginal, andBe accepted in the community as Aboriginal.Hold a strong understanding of Aboriginal Cultural Knowledge and practices, with an understanding of the local Aboriginal communities and their networks and a commitment to collaborationBe able to effectively build and maintain strong relationships with a broad range of people including Government agencies, community groups and volunteersDemonstrate strong time management and work efficiency skills with the ability to prioritiseHave good organisational, administration, and computer skillsHave experience in action planning, training delivery and group facilitationHave an understanding of, and commitment to, local environmental and agricultural land management issuesHave an understanding of the role of Landcare, its activities and engagement with the Aboriginal community regarding land management practices in this settingHave a demonstrated ability to work with minimum supervision, be able to use initiative,
and have the ability to work as part of a team or networkHave the ability and willingness to work outside office hours from time to time, to contact landholders and attend community group meetingsHave the ability to travel and work away from home / work at other locations for multiple days durationHold a current NSW Driver’s Licence.
Additional InformationThis is an identified Aboriginal Position where evidence of Aboriginality is required. Applicants must be of Aboriginal descent. Exemption is claimed under Section 14d of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977.New England Landcare Network Inc is an equal opportunity employer, with employment under the organisation’s standard employment agreement or as negotiated.Attendance at meetings outside of normal work hours may be required.Travel around the Recent England region and infrequent travel and overnight stays may be required.You may be required to use your own vehicle for work purposes and provide us with copies of current Comprehensive or at least Third-Party Property insurance policies for your vehicle.Vehicle use will be reimbursed on a per kilometre basis with the shortest distance between destinations used to calculate reimbursement.This is a full time position (35 hours per week) funded to 30 June 2027.
