About the role
MacKillop Catholic College is seeking a dedicated Inclusion Support Assistant - Heavy Work Program (Physical Activity Regulation Program) to join our inclusive education team. This is a casual position based in Johnston, NT 0832. In this role, you will provide specialised support to students with additional needs, focusing on implementing a heavy work program for individual students and small groups designed to develop motor skills, build confidence and support regulation needs. You will work collaboratively with teachers and the Inclusion support team to create an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students.
Key responsibilities
1. Deliver individualised heavy work program sessions to students with varying abilities and support needs
2. Assist in planning and implementing tailored physical activity programs aligned with student Education Adjustment Plans (EAPs) and regulation support needs
3. Support students in developing gross and fine motor skills through structured exercises and activities
4. Monitor and record student progress, providing feedback to the inclusion Support Coordinators and teaching team
5. Ensure a safe, supportive and encouraging environment during all sessions
6. Assist with mobility support and personal care as required in accordance with training and protocols
7. Collaborate with classroom teachers, Inclusion Support coordinators and allied health professionals
8. Maintain accurate documentation and communicate regularly with relevant stakeholders about student achievements and progress
9. Support students in developing independence,
resilience and self-confidence through physical activities
10. Adhere to all health and safety procedures and duty of care requirements
What we're looking for
1. Experience working with students who have additional needs or disabilities in an educational setting
2. Knowledge of inclusive education practices and a commitment to supporting all learners
3. First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain these qualifications)
4. Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff and families
5. Physical fitness and the ability to demonstrate exercises and activities to students
6. Demonstrated understanding of safeguarding and child protection principles
7. Flexibility, patience and a positive, solution-focused approach to problem-solving
8. Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team
9. Relevant qualifications or experience in fitness instruction, physical education or disability support is highly desirable
10. A current Working With Children Check (or eligibility to obtain one) is essential
