About the opportunity

As Australia's financial intelligence unit and anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing regulator, AUSTRAC plays a critical role in detecting, deterring and disrupting criminal activity that threatens our economy, national security and community.

As an APS6 Communications Intelligence Security Officer (COMSO), you will play a critical role in ensuring AUSTRAC's classified information, systems and facilities remain secure. Working within the Physical Security, Resilience and Deployments team, you will manage AUSTRAC's Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility (SCIF) and provide expert security advice that supports AUSTRAC's operational and national security outcomes.

This is a unique opportunity to work within Australia's national security environment, collaborating with stakeholders across AUSTRAC and the Australian Signals Directorate (ASD) to support the secure management of classified information and critical security operations.

Please note, the position is based in Canberra and due to the operational requirements, the role will require ongoing on-site attendance. The role may involve occasional interstate travel and after-hours work to support urgent on-call or emergency situations. The successful candidate may also be eligible for a restriction allowance.

The key duties of the position include:

- Manage and maintain the security,



accreditation and day-to-day operation of AUSTRAC’s Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility (SCIF).
- Protect highly classified information through the implementation of effective security controls and compliance activities.
- Provide expert advice on security policies, procedures and best practice to support organisational security outcomes.
- Deliver security briefings, training and access management services for authorised personnel.
- Build strong relationships with stakeholders and contribute to AUSTRAC’s broader protective security and resilience functions.

What are we looking for?

We are seeking a highly motivated security skilled who can operate confidently in a highly classified environment to ensure high standards of security, integrity and compliance.

Highly Desirable

- Experience as a Communications Intelligence Security Officer (COMSO).
- Qualifications, knowledge or demonstrated experience in security risk management or a related security discipline.

Eligibility

To be eligible for this role you:

- Must be an Australian citizen at the time you apply.
- Will need to undertake AUSTRAC’s pre-engagement checks.
- Will need to obtain and maintain an ongoing Positive Vetting (PV) or Top Secret–Privileged Access (TS-PA) Security Clearance
