The position of Welfare Lead will lead a team of welfare workers to provide a high-level, comprehensive welfare service addressing the interrelated practical and psychosocial needs of children, their families and carers within Children’s Health Queensland Hospital and Health Service. The service provides targeted, culturally-safe, trauma-informed support to families and carers from across the state during their children’s specialist medical treatment at the Queensland Children’s Hospital (QCH), either as inpatients or outpatients.

About The Role

You will fulfil the accountabilities of this role in accordance with the CHQ HHS core values and as outlined below.

Technical Services

- Work collaboratively with social workers and multidisciplinary teams to ensure welfare responses are informed by holistic considerations of the child and family's psychosocial circumstances and broader social determinants impacting the child and family's access to healthcare.
- Lead the application of welfare decision-making principles and criteria in daily clinical practice, promoting consistent approaches within the welfare service that build practice confidence across experience levels, align team language and practice, and support clear communication of expectations, roles and responsibilities to families and staff.
- Maintain accurate, timely and confidential records of client assessments, interventions and reports in accordance with medico-legal and organisational requirements.

Communication / Team Participation

- Lead the welfare team, utilising high-level communication and leadership skills to coordinate high quality service delivery and support effective multidisciplinary collaboration.
- Provide strategic advice supporting the planning and development of Social Work and Welfare services, and contribute to broader hospital and statewide initiatives, including Department of Health directives such as the Patient Travel Subsidy Scheme (PTSS).

Leadership

- Provide leadership in service planning,



priority setting and data collection to support the delivery of welfare services within the Social Work and Welfare Department.
- Assist the Director of Social Work in preparing reports including annual trust fund report.
