About Esus Centre
Esus Centre is Perth's first licensed psychiatric day hospital, operating as a fully integrated, value-based healthcare practice. We are home to Australia's first ICHOM-accredited mental health service — recognised internationally for measuring and improving outcomes that matter most to patients.
Our multidisciplinary team — comprising a consultant psychiatrist, clinical psychologist, general practitioner, dietitian, and therapists — delivers intensive therapeutic programs for adults and adolescents across eating disorders, mood disorders, trauma, and youth mental health. We are a research-active, clinically excellent, and genuinely human-centred environment.
The Opportunity
This is an exceptional opportunity for a doctor working as a non-training or service registrar who is passionate about mental health and looking for a role with genuine clinical depth, exceptional supervision, and a team culture that is hard to find elsewhere.
Working half-time alongside a consultant psychiatrist (FRANZCP) and a GP with additional mental health expertise, you will be embedded in a specialist day hospital environment with real clinical breadth — from eating disorder medicine to youth mental health — in a setting that prioritises team, learning,
and quality of care.
Whether you are considering the RANZCP training pathway, taking time away from an accredited training position, or building experience in a specialist mental health setting, this role offers meaningful supervised clinical experience in one of psychiatry's most rewarding subspecialties.
Key Responsibilities
• Medical monitoring of patients enrolled in intensive day hospital programs for adults and adolescents
• Physical health assessment, vital sign review, medication oversight, and clinical escalation under psychiatrist and GP supervision
• Participation in multidisciplinary team meetings and case discussions
• Supporting pre-treatment and ongoing medical workup for program participants
• Opportunity to observe and co-facilitate group therapy delivery
• Liaison with external treating teams, GPs, and referrers as needed
• Contributing to the clinical safety, governance, and quality improvement culture of Esus Centre
What Esus Offers You
• Supervised clinical experience in eating disorders and youth mental health — two of the most clinically complex and rewarding subspecialties in psychiatry
• Direct mentorship from a FRANZCP with expertise in value-based healthcare, psychedelic-assisted therapy, and treatment-resistant presentations
• Co-supervision from a GP with additional mental health expertise
• Attendance at multidisciplinary team meetings alongside psychiatrists, psychologists, dietitians, and therapists
• Exposure to internationally recognised,
outcomes-focused clinical practice (ICHOM Level 1 Accredited)
• Flexible hours — no overtime, no on-call, no weekend requirements
• A warm, collegiate, and intellectually stimulating team environment
• Genuine career development for doctors considering or preparing for RANZCP training
About You
You are a doctor working at registrar level who brings:
• Full AHPRA general or specialist registration
• At least 1 year of post-internship clinical experience
• A genuine interest in mental health and the biopsychosocial model of care
• The ability to work collaboratively and contribute meaningfully within a multidisciplinary team
• Sound clinical skills, strong communication, and a commitment to patient safety
• Curiosity, warmth, and a desire to grow as a clinician
• An interest in eating disorders, youth mental health, or both — highly regarded
Prior psychiatry, general medicine, paediatrics, or GP experience is welcome. We are looking for someone with the right values and clinical aptitude.
Remuneration
The position is remunerated at pro-rata equivalent to the WA AMA Doctor in Training Agreement (SMO/Registrar classification), approximately $125 010 base salary for pro rata, plus 12% superannuation.
Esus Centre offers exceptional supervision, clinical breadth, flexible hours, a no-overtime workplace, and a team culture that values each individual's contribution.
