Trainer & Assessor / HSE Advisor
FIFO 2:1 Roster | Telfer Operations | Full-Time Permanent | $165k + Super
Western Work Force are currently seeking an experienced Trainer & Assessor / HSE Advisor for a full-time permanent FIFO opportunity with our client, a well-established WA civil and mining contractor operating across the resources sector.
This role is based on a 2:1 FIFO roster from Perth and offers $165,000 + superannuation, with an immediate start available for the right person.
This is a unique dual-role opportunity, combining site training, competency assessment and practical HSE support across an active mining/civil operation.
The primary focus of the role will be coordinating and delivering training, conducting Verification of Competency assessments, maintaining training records and ensuring the workforce remains competent, compliant and confident in their duties.
During the rostered R&R; of the resident HSE Advisor, you will also step into the HSE Advisor role, providing hands-on safety support to supervisors and crews and helping maintain strong site safety standards.

About the Role
Reporting to the Operations Manager and working closely with site supervisors, health and safety representatives and the wider HSE team, your responsibilities will include both training and safety support across the project.
This role will suit a hands-on safety and training professional who is comfortable working directly with operators, supervisors and site leadership to ensure training, competency and HSE standards are maintained.
Key Responsibilities
Training & Competency
- Deliver site inductions and practical training
- Conduct Verification of Competency assessments across mobile plant and equipment
- Coach and mentor operators to improve competency and safe work practices
- Maintain training records and competency matrices
- Develop and deliver toolbox presentations and refresher training
- Ensure all training complies with client and legislative requirements
- Maintain the training matrix within MyOSH
Health, Safety & Workplace
During the rostered leave of the resident HSE Advisor, you will:
- Act as the primary HSE Advisor for the project
- Provide practical safety advice and coaching to supervisors and crews
- Conduct workplace inspections, audits and hazard identification
- Participate in incident investigations and corrective actions
- Assist with risk assessments and development of safe work procedures
- Monitor compliance with site HSE systems, including Chess and MyOSH
- Support emergency preparedness and return-to-work processes
- Complete weekly and monthly HSE reporting
Essential Qualifications & Experience
To be successful, you will ideally have:
- Certificate IV in Training & Assessment, TAE40122 or equivalent
- Relevant Health & Safety qualification
- Previous experience in mining, civil construction or heavy industry
- Demonstrated experience conducting VOC assessments on mobile plant
- Strong knowledge of WHS legislation and mining safety systems
- Experience delivering practical training in the field
- Excellent communication and coaching skills
- Strong organisational and reporting skills
- Ability to build positive working relationships across all levels
- High level of integrity, professionalism and initiative
- Mobile plant tickets such as Loader, Excavator, Grader and Water Cart, highly desirable
Essential Requirements
- Current Australian Driver’s Licence
- HR Licence preferred, but not essential
- Ability to pass a pre-employment medical and drug & alcohol screen
- National Police Clearance
- FIFO experience highly regarded
- Experience using electronic safety reporting systems such as MyOSH or similar, desirable
