We are seeking to recruit an experienced Technical Expert (expatriate) to deliver expert service, technical, and training support to ensure seamless operations and high customer satisfaction onsite at Freeport Indonesia (Highlands). The position is key in optimising processes, driving continuous improvement initiatives and best practices. Whilst the role includes mentoring, reporting, planning and technical advisory functions, the Technical Expert is also expected to maintain a robust field presence and undertake practical maintenance and repair activities to support operational requirements where necessary.

This will be FIFO position from the nearest capital city of the successful candidate, working a 6:3 roster. This is a live‑in role during each rotation, with working days from Monday to Saturday.

Key Responsibilities

- Mentor and Train: Provide guidance, mentorship, and technical training to PT Freeport National Service Technicians, overseeing their work, transferring knowledge, and supporting their professional development. Prepare and present monthly reporting as required.

- Hands-On Technical Support: Due to the nature of the operation, remote location and limited onsite manpower resources, the Technical Expert will be required to actively perform hands-on maintenance activities including preventive maintenance (PM), scheduled servicing, breakdown repairs, fault finding, troubleshooting, diagnostics, commissioning support and technical interventions on Normet equipment as required. The technical Expert is expected to work alongside PTFI and the customers sub-contractor personnel to ensure equipment availability, reliability and knowledge transfer.

- Respond to customer inquiries, troubleshoot problems, and provide timely and accurate solutions.

- Monitor product performance in the field and contribute to lifecycle planning including upgrades, obsolescence, and replacement strategies.





- Act as the voice of the customer within Normet, relaying feedback and feature requests to product teams.

- Support the development of customer-facing documentation, including product manuals, FAQs, and training materials.

- Partner with sales teams to deliver product demonstrations and technical briefings to clients.

- Assist in developing value propositions and ROI analyses for Normet equipment and services.

- Provide insights into customer needs and emerging technologies relevant to underground mining equipment.

- Leverage digital platforms and analytics tools to monitor equipment usage, performance, and predictive maintenance opportunities.

- Contribute to the development and refinement of digital service offerings (e.g., remote diagnostics, IoT integration).

- Collaborate with engineering and product development teams to provide field insights that inform product design and enhancements.

- Ensure all work on equipment maintenance history is managed and recorded in the nominated CMMS for analysis and improvement.

- Providing frequent reporting to senior management regarding product performance and quality.

- Assist in implementing preventive maintenance programs based on equipment manufacture guidelines, industry best practices and historical data.

- Preventive Maintenance: Develop and implement preventative maintenance programs based on OEM guidelines, best practices, safety and historical data.

- Participation in Management Meetings with Normet Freeport Team.

- Implement strategies to provide and or assist with issues incurred within the service department at the mine.

- Spare Parts Management: Advise PTFI planning and procurement department of recommended and critical spare parts and advise holdings. Collaborate with Normet procurement and supply chain teams to ensure management of required inventory considering lead times, strategy and criticality.

- Ensure continuous support to the Production Planner and Warehouse Coordinators at PT Normet Indonesia.

- Build and maintain a high degree of interaction and cooperation, understanding and synergy across the Normet and PTFI Teams.





- Actively participate in establishing and achieving business strategies for PT Normet Indonesia.

- Data Analysis and Reporting: Analise maintenance data and metrics to identify trends, evaluate equipment performance and advise data driven decisions.

- Generate reports on maintenance activities, downtime, equipment reliability and maintenance costs to track performance and identify areas for improvement.

About you

- 10+ years’ experience in a similar expatriate role, ideally working in underground mining is essential.

- Trade background (mechanical/electrical/boilermaker/fitter etc) is essential.

- Experience with Normet underground mining equipment is essential.

- Excellent communication and collaboration skills across a multicultural workforce is essential.

- Strong problem-solving skills with a focus on troubleshooting complex issues.

- Experience with service management, maintenance planning, and execution in remote environments.

- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

- Experience in customer-facing roles, with a focus on service quality, reliability, and client satisfaction.

- Willingness to work in remote environments with extended rotations or fly-in-fly-out (FIFO) schedules.

- Training and mentoring experience to support staff development in technical and safety skills.

- Familiarity with CMMS (Computerised Maintenance Management System) software.

- Experience in safety and risk management, with the ability to implement and enforce safety protocols.

- Excellent communication and leadership skills to manage teams, interact with stakeholders, and train staff with diverse cultural backgrounds.
