We are seeking an experienced Senior Tax Accountant to join our team in Mossman. This senior role involves managing complex tax compliance and advisory work for public companies and multi-entity groups controlled by high net worth individuals. You will work closely with the Principal on sophisticated tax matters, including tax consolidations and Employee Share Scheme advice and implementation.
This position offers significant responsibility, exposure to high-level tax work, and the potential for long-term career progression, including eligibility for participation in the firm’s Employee Share Scheme and performance bonuses after a qualifying period.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, review and lodge complex income tax returns and workpapers for public companies, trusts, partnerships and high net worth individuals.
- Manage full tax compliance obligations including BAS, IAS, FBT returns and Queensland payroll tax.
- Handle tax consolidations for public companies.
- Provide strategic tax planning and structuring advice for multi-entity groups.
- Advise on and assist with the design and implementation of Employee Share Schemes.
- Conduct in-depth technical research and provide clear, practical advice on legislative changes and ATO positions.
- Utilise advanced AI tools,
including Tax AI Law Cyborg, Claude, and Grok, to support research, analysis and client deliverables.
- Prepare tax effect accounting entries and disclosures where required.
- Liaise with the ATO on audits, private rulings and other compliance matters.
- Build strong client relationships and act as a trusted tax advisor.
- Mentor and support junior team members.
- Contribute to continuous improvement and technology adoption within the firm.
Key Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Commerce or a related field.
- CA, CPA or CTA qualification (or working towards) – strongly preferred.
- Minimum 5–7+ years of relevant tax experience, preferably in public practice, with exposure to complex client structures.
- Strong technical knowledge of Australian tax law, including corporate tax and trust structuring.
- Experience or strong interest in tax consolidations and Employee Share Schemes is highly desirable.
- Excellent analytical, communication and client relationship skills.
- Proficiency in Xero/MYOB and Microsoft Office (advanced Excel).
- Current driver’s licence and willingness to travel within Far North Queensland or interstate as required.
- Enthusiasm for working in a regional location and using modern AI tools.
