About the role

Lead the development and delivery of strategic communications, media and publicity initiatives that enhance the WA Museum’s global reputation, profile, and public engagement. The role provides high‑level strategic advice on communications and reputation management, cultivates solid relationships with key internal and external stakeholders and media, and drives awareness of the Museum’s collections, exhibitions, programs and priorities to build audiences, strengthen community connection, and support organisational objectives.

The role is located at the WA Museum Boola Bardip in the Perth Cultural Centre, Northbridge.

About you

We're looking for a communications leader who can move effortlessly from a ministerial briefing to a media interview, from a stakeholder meeting to an exhibition opening. Someone who thrives on building relationships, is passionate about culture, community and storytelling, and championing the WA Museum's impact across Western Australia and the world.

The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker, natural collaborator,



and confident leader who is equally comfortable engaging with government stakeholders, managing media opportunities, navigating sensitive issues, and inspiring a high‑performing team.

Responsibilities

The successful applicant will be expected to:

- Develop and implement external strategic communications plans, consistent with the strategic directions of the Western Australian Museum.
- Develop communications policies, frameworks and processes for implementation by Museum staff.
- Lead the development and coordination of executive stakeholder communications on behalf of the Chief Executive Officer, ensuring timely, consistent and impactful engagement with government, industry, community and strategic partners.
- Establish and maintain high‑value media relationships that position the WA Museum as a leading cultural institution and drive positive, accurate, and widespread coverage across local, national and international media channels.

Eligibility to Apply

- To be eligible for appointment, applicants must have the legal right to work in Australia at the time of appointment. This may include Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents, or holders of a valid Visa that permits employment in Australia.




- A current (within six (6) months) National Police Clearance Certificate will also be required prior to commencement of employment, as per the Department’s Police Record Screening Policy.

Pool Recruitment

This Pool will be open for a period of 12 months from the day after the breach of standard claim period closes. Permanent full‑time, and fixed‑term full‑time appointments may be offered as vacancies arise; however, an appointment is not guaranteed.

Applicants found suitable in the Pool may be considered for subsequent, similar vacancies with the WA Museum and the Department of Creative Industries, Tourism and Sport (CITS) for the duration of the Pool.
