Summary:
PLC Perth invites applications for the position of Visual Arts Technician. This part‑time, term‑time position provides essential technical and administrative support to our vibrant Senior School Visual Arts Department. Working closely with teaching staff, the successful applicant will prepare resources and equipment for practical lessons, maintain studios and specialist equipment, manage art materials and stock, and support exhibitions and student displays. This is an excellent prospect for an organised, proactive and creative individual who enjoys working in a collaborative educational workplace and is passionate about supporting students’ creative learning experiences.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare equipment, materials and resources for Visual Arts lessons and practical activities.
- Provide technical support to teachers and students across a range of visual arts disciplines including painting, printmaking, ceramics, textiles and sculpture.
- Maintain art studios, storerooms, equipment and specialist facilities, including kiln operation and maintenance.
- Manage ordering, stock control and inventory of art materials and equipment, including invoice reconciliation and record keeping.
- Assist with the preparation of teaching resources, scanning, photocopying and digital materials.
- Support the organisation of exhibitions, displays, framing, installation and transport of student artwork.
- Assist with departmental marketing materials, invitations and publications where required.
- Ensure all workspaces, equipment and materials are maintained to a high standard of cleanliness, organisation and safety.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Demonstrated experience working in a Visual Arts environment or a similar technical support role.
- Practical knowledge of a range of visual arts processes, materials and equipment, including ceramics and kiln operation (highly desirable).
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently.
- Experience with stock management, purchasing and maintaining accurate records.
- Proficiency in digital technologies, with experience using Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop or similar design software being advantageous.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build positive working relationships with staff and students.
- A proactive, flexible and collaborative approach with a commitment to supporting teaching and learning.
- Current Working with Children Check (or willingness to obtain) and National Police Clearance.
