Plant and Workshop Manager

Into its 42nd year, Sanwell Plumbing is a well-established and respected plumbing contractor servicing commercial construction projects in Perth and Western Australia. We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Plant and Workshop Manager to lead the management, maintenance, and continuous improvement of our fleet, equipment, workshop facilities, and associated assets.

This is a key leadership role for a proactive and organised professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment. You will be responsible for ensuring our vehicles, plant, tools, and workshop operations are maintained to the highest standards, delivering maximum reliability, safety, compliance, and efficiency across our business. Working closely with operational and project teams, you will play a critical role in supporting our workforce and contributing to the continued growth and success of Sanwell Plumbing.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

Equipment and Asset Management

- Manage the maintenance, servicing, and repairs of all specialised plumbing tools, plant, and equipment.

- Maintain accurate registers and ensure equipment compliance with safety and operational standards.

- Manage calibration, and replacement schedules for tools and machinery.

- Maintain relationships with and monitor performance of suppliers associated with plant, equipment and tooling

- Obtain quotes for repairs and maintenance, issue purchase orders and approve creditors invoices associated with plant maintenance, logistics and workshop and yard works.

Workshop Operations

- Management of the workshop staff.

- Supervise daily workshop activities, ensuring efficient workflow.

- Coordinate deliveries.

- Implement lean principles to maximize productivity and minimize downtime.

- Continuously improve workshop layout, processes, and productivity.





Fleet and Logistics Coordination

- Manage company vehicles and equipment.

- Schedule servicing and ensure vehicles meet safety standards.

- Support site operations through timely delivery of tools, plant, and equipment.

Health, Safety, and Compliance

- Ensure the workshop and yard meet WHS obligations and company safety policies.

- Conduct safety inspections, risk assessments, and assist with incident investigations.

- Maintain records of licenses, test certificates, and safety inductions.

- Prepare and deliver pre-start meetings and toolbox talk meetings.

Inventory and Stock Control

- Implement systems for productive ordering, receipting, and issuing equipment.

- Monitor usage and identify cost-saving opportunities.

Team Leadership and Development

- Supervise and mentor workshop staff.

- Allocate workloads, monitor performance, and foster skill development.

- Identify relevant training to ensure staff competency and compliance.

- Promote a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Budgeting and Reporting

- Reports directly to the CEOs of the Sanwell Group of Companies.

- Assist in the management of workshop budgets, expenses, and cost allocations for plant and materials.

- Prepare performance and maintenance reports for management.

- Recommend capital investments for fleet and equipment upgrades.

- Recommend procurement or replacement of tools and equipment as required.

Project Support





- Work closely with project managers and site teams to meet plant, equipment and tooling requirements ensuring productivity of the projects.

- Control toolboxes, consumables, and equipment movement to reduce loss and downtime.

- Contribute to planning and logistical coordination for projects.

Key Competencies

- Strong mechanical and plumbing systems knowledge.

- Practical experience in workshop or plant management within construction or building services.

- Strong leadership and communication skills.

- Sound understanding of WHS legislation and compliance requirements.

- Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities.

- Proficient use of Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.
