Senior Rates Officer
Join our growing Revenue team in this newly created role, where you'll provide specialist expertise in rating operations and help shape the future of revenue management at the City of Canning. Reporting to the Coordinator Revenue, you'll be part of an established, collaborative team focused on delivering accurate, compliant and customer-focused rating services.
About the role
As the Senior Rates Officer, you will play a key role in supporting the administration of the City's rating functions, ensuring accuracy, legislative compliance and continuous improvement across rating operations. Working closely with the Coordinator Revenue, you'll provide technical leadership, resolve complex rating matters and mentor team members to build capability and consistency across the Rates function.
The role contributes to the accurate calculation, billing, collection, and recovery of rates and charges in accordance with legislative requirements and Council policies.
A snapshot of your recent role:
- Provide specialist advice on rating legislation, policies and operational practices.
- Support the accurate calculation, billing and administration of rates and charges.
- Resolve complex rating, valuation and customer matters.
- Mentor and guide team members while contributing to process improvement initiatives.
- Assist with rating analysis, reporting and strategic revenue management projects.
What you will bring to the role:
- A thorough specialist knowledge of the rating function pertaining to Local Government
- Demonstrated understanding of the application of local government legislation in relation to rating practices.
- Relevant diploma, degree or other tertiary qualification with a minimum of 6 years of experience in rating function.
- A minimum of at least 2 years of Supervisory Experience in Local Government/Rates or Similar
- Demonstrated working knowledge of the Local Government Act 1995 and Rates and Charges (Rebates and Deferments) Act 1992.
- Current Satisfactory National Police Clearance (or willingness to obtain one)
