About Babcock International Group

Babcock International is a leading provider of critical, complex and highly regulated through‑life engineering services to governments and defence forces worldwide. Operating across nuclear, aviation, land and maritime sectors servicing 60 countries, Babcock partners with governments to maintain and advance national capability, delivering services that cannot be allowed to fail.

Role Overview

As CEO and Regional Director, Australasia, you will have full accountability for Babcock’s ANZ operation, including its people, performance, client relationships and strategic direction. Reporting to the Group Chief Growth Officer, and working in close partnership with global executive leadership and the ANZ group, this is a role for a leader who combines genuine commercial acumen with the credibility to operate at the highest levels of government and defence.

Key Responsibilities

- Own the full P&L; for the Australasia region. Drive high‑margin revenue growth through disciplined commercial management, bid strategy and quality pipeline development.
- Lead Babcock’s engagement with Australian and New Zealand government clients and defence stakeholders. Navigate the political and procurement landscape with credibility and long‑term relationship depth.
- Identify and pursue growth opportunities across the region, leveraging AUKUS and defence modernisation to build a strong forward pipeline.
- Define and execute the strategic agenda for the Australasia business in collaboration with Group leadership, including the Global CEO.
- Lead a team of approximately 2,000 people across ANZ, including eight direct reports. Drive high performance, build capability and shape an organisational structure that supports the critical growth agenda.

- Oversee the delivery of large‑scale, complex programmes, ensuring quality, schedule and financial performance are achieved. Embed robust governance, risk management and compliance frameworks aligned to both local and UK requirements, and drive operational resilience and continuous improvement across the business.
- Maintain and deepen Babcock’s key client relationships and ensure delivery excellence across all contracts.
- Lead the business’s positioning and response to AUKUS and related defence capability opportunities. Maintain the highest standards of security compliance across the region.
- Work closely with UK headquarters, the Chief Growth Officers and wider global leadership team and the ANZ group to align regional strategy with Group priorities.

Candidate Profile

Babcock is conducting a global search for this appointment. The ideal candidate will bring substantial experience at the interface of defence, government and commercial leadership, with the security clearance, sector depth and track record to be credible from day one.

This role requires a leader who is commercially sharp, politically astute and operationally credible; someone the Group trusts to grow the business and the team trusts to lead it.

What we are looking for

- Current or ability to achieve NV1 security clearance. Australian Citizenship. 10+ years operating within classified defence environments.

- Proven track record owning a significant P&L;, ideally $200M+. Demonstrated ability to grow revenue, improve margin and manage commercial complexity across a large, multi‑contract portfolio in a matrixed organisation.
- Substantive experience in defence or a closely related sector (O&G;, manufacturing, maritime, aviation, infrastructure or related critical services). Understands how to operate in a regulated, government‑facing environment.
- Credible and experienced in government and defence procurement. Understands the political environment, navigates it well and builds long‑term relationships with the right stakeholders.
- Track record of winning and delivering large government contracts. Brings commercial intelligence, bid discipline and the ability to grow a forward pipeline with genuine rigour.
- Strong understanding of risk, governance and operational delivery in large‑scale, matrixed organisations, with the discipline to embed compliance frameworks across multiple jurisdictions.
- Experience operating across borders, ideally within a global defence or engineering group. Understands how to translate Group strategy into regional execution.
- Familiarity with AUKUS, Australian and New Zealand defence priorities, and the strategic direction of the region’s defence capability investment. South Australia base preferred.
- Commercially astute and results‑driven leader, recognised for delivering with pace and precision while maintaining strong personal integrity. Demonstrates an authentic and visible leadership style, with a proven ability to build inclusive, high‑performing cultures that inspire, engage, and align teams to a transparent, shared purpose.
