THE ROLE The School Assistant - TAS is a role within the College’s Technology & Applied Studies (TAS) Programmes, working within the Trade Skills Centre & Technology Hub. The role works closely with teaching staff in the preparation, delivery and follow up of classes to ensure that all classes are delivered in a safe and effective manner that maximises learning outcomes for students.

The School

Assistant - TAS will assist teachers as required and ensure that at all times rooms comply with relevant Workplace Health and Safety legislation.

The job will entail some lifting and cleaning responsibilities requiring the successful applicant to possess sound levels of health and fitness.

This role is 32 hours per week, days and hours by negotiation.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Maintain equipment and machinery
- Keep equipment maintenance records and regularly check workshops for WHS issues
- Ensure safe operating procedures (SOPs) are visible for all equipment
- Processing and preparing resources and materials
- Working as part of a team
- Clean all work areas after practical classes
- Prepare equipment and materials for demonstration for classroom teacher




- Maintain stores of staple materials

- Ordering of materials
- Assist students as directed by class teacher
- Assist class teacher with demonstrations when required
- Assist with setting up events and displays for the TAS department
- Attend appropriate professional development experiences relating to role to expand knowledge base and extend professional networks

- Other tasks as directed

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

- Qualifications in Trades or Technology are not a requirement for the position but would be highly regarded
- Demonstrated understanding of WHS legislation and how it impacts on teaching students in a practical workshop setting
- Experience and/or qualifications in the appropriate areas relating to WHS (including but not limited to use of woodworking equipment, laser cutter/engravers and 3D printing) is desirable
- Experience within a secondary school environment would be advantageous
- Current NSW Working with Children Check
- First Aid Certificate
