We’re working with a well-established, mid-sized accounting and advisory firm based in St Kilda that’s currently looking for a Senior Accountant with around 5 years of experience in public practice.

This is a compliance-focused role, but there’s a strong business advisory component too—roughly 75% compliance and 25% advisory. It would suit someone who enjoys working with corporate clients and wants to grow into more of a trusted advisor role over time.

About the firm The accounting team is made up of around 30 people, with 80 staff in total across various divisions. The firm works with a broad mix of small-to-medium business clients, including those in fast food, engineering, and other service industries. While they do have a strong presence in pharmacy, this role won’t focus on that area.

The environment is supportive and professional, with a valuable mix of experienced team members and junior staff. You’ll be supported to continue developing your skills, particularly in advisory, if that’s a direction you’d like to go.

What the role involves

Your day-to-day work will include:

- Preparing and reviewing compliance work for companies, trusts, and individuals




- Supporting outsourced accounting staff and reviewing their work
- Liaising with clients over phone and email—there is client contact, but it’s not a business development or sales role
- Assisting with tax planning, structuring, and advisory work alongside senior team members
- General client management, queries, and ongoing relationship support

What they're looking for The successful candidate will ideally have:

- Around 5 years of experience in a public practice accounting firm
- Strong compliance background (especially with companies and trusts)
- A desire to engage more with clients and step into an advisory space
- Confidence in reviewing others’ work and helping to manage workflow
- Familiarity with Xero, XPM, and ideally FYI Docs (though not essential)

Flexible working The firm offers two days of work from home per week, but only once probation is complete. The team is structured in a way that supports hybrid work, and they’ve got solid systems in place (Xero, XPM, FYI Docs) to make it run smoothly.

Salary

Up to $110,000 + super, depending on experience.
