Purchasing Officer – Manufacturing

Olympic Industries | Para Hills West, SA

Established in 1969, Olympic Industries is a leading South Australian manufacturer of steel products ranging from small garden sheds to large industrial buildings. Due to continued growth, we're seeking an experienced Purchasing Officer to lead our purchasing function and support our manufacturing operations from our Para Hills West head office.

This is a hands‑on role suited to someone with strong supplier negotiation skills, manufacturing purchasing experience, and the ability to ensure continuity of supply in a fast‑paced environment.

About the Role

Reporting to the Production Manager, the Purchasing Officer is responsible for overseeing end‑to‑end purchasing activities to ensure materials and components are sourced cost‑effectively, meet quality requirements, and align with production schedules.

You will be responsible for the purchasing function, managing supplier relationships, and work closely with Production, Engineering, and Logistics to keep operations running efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

- Oversee sourcing and purchasing of raw materials, components, and packaging

- Prepare, review and approve purchase orders

- Monitor stock levels and ensure continuity of supply

- Negotiate pricing, contracts, and lead times with key suppliers

- Build and maintain solid supplier relationships

- Monitor supplier performance relating to cost, quality, and delivery

- Liaise with Production on forecasts, lead times, and delivery priorities

- Ensure accurate reconciliation of purchase orders, invoices, and goods receipting

- Maintain accurate purchasing data within MRP and supporting systems





- Identify cost savings, efficiency improvements, and continuous improvement opportunities

About You

You are an experienced purchasing specialist who enjoys combining hands‑on processing work with responsibility for Supplier engagement, within a manufacturing environment. You like taking control of processes; from start to finish and seeing tasks through to completion.

You will bring:

- Proven purchasing or procurement experience within manufacturing or industrial environments; preferred, but not required

- Strong supplier negotiation and relationship management skills

- High attention to detail with robust planning and organisational skills

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel

- A proactive, solutions‑focused approach

Requirements

- Current Australian driver's licence (Class C)

- Ability to work from our Para Hills West head office

- Australian citizenship is required for this position

- Satisfactory completion of pre-employment medical, including drug screen
