About the role

Rising Sun Inn is seeking an experienced Head Chef to lead our culinary operations and deliver exceptional dining experiences to our guests. This is a contract position based in Kensington, SA 5068. As Head Chef, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of kitchen operations, menu development, food quality, and staff management. This role is pivotal to maintaining our reputation for excellence and ensuring the highest standards of food preparation and presentation across all our dining services.

What you'll be doing

1. Planning, developing and executing menus that reflect seasonal ingredients and culinary trends whilst maintaining cost efficiency

2. Managing kitchen operations, including food preparation, cooking, plating and presentation to consistently high standards

3. Ensuring strict adherence to food safety, hygiene and health regulations at all times

4. Overseeing food costing, inventory management and supplier relationships to maintain profitability

5. Recruiting, training, mentoring and motivating kitchen staff to develop a cohesive and high-performing team

6. Maintaining kitchen equipment and facilities, ensuring all tools and systems are in optimal working order

7. Collaborating with front-of-house management to deliver seamless service and guest satisfaction

8. Managing food waste and implementing sustainable practices within the kitchen

9. Responding to guest feedback and adjusting menus and preparations to meet dining expectations

What we're looking for

1. Formal culinary qualification or equivalent professional training in food preparation and kitchen management

2. Minimum 5-8 years' experience working as a chef in professional hospitality or restaurant environments

3. Proven experience leading and managing kitchen teams of varying sizes

4. Robust knowledge of food safety, HACCP principles and health and hygiene legislation

5.



Advanced culinary skills with proficiency in multiple cooking techniques and cuisines

6. Excellent menu planning and development abilities with an understanding of food costing and profit margins

7. Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop staff

8. Organisational skills with the capacity to manage multiple tasks and maintain composure under pressure

9. Experience with kitchen management systems and food ordering software is advantageous

10. Flexibility to work unsociable hours, including evenings, weekends and public holidays as required
