Smith Channon is Autocare’s specialist freight forwarding and customs broking business, keeping goods moving smoothly through global supply chains and Australian border controls. We’re looking for a hands‑on General Manager to lead the business, drive growth and keep operations sharp, compliant and customer‑focused.

About the role
Reporting to the Managing Director – Autocare Services, you’ll own:

- Operations: Run end to end freight forwarding and customs broking (air, sea, road; import/export). Keep jobs accurate, on time and compliant, and make smart use of systems and resources.
- Commercials: Drive revenue, margin and cost control. Own budgets, pricing and profitability, and provide clear performance insights to the Autocare leadership team.
- Compliance & Risk: Ensure full compliance with ABF, DAFF and all relevant customs, biosecurity and trade regulations. Maintain strong processes, audit trails and risk controls.
- People Leadership: Lead, coach and develop a small team of specialists. Set transparent expectations, lift performance and build a high energy, client focused culture aligned to our values – Safety, People, Customer, Performance.
- Customers & Growth:



Be the key point of contact for major customers, manage escalations and find opportunities to improve service, expand lanes and grow the business.

About your experience
You’re an experienced logistics leader who can blend operational detail with commercial thinking.
You’ll bring:

- Customs Broker Licence, or strong experience working closely with licensed brokers
- Around 7+ years in freight forwarding and/or customs broking
- Senior operational or GM experience in logistics, freight or customs
- Strong knowledge of Australian customs, quarantine and international trade rules
- Proven ability to manage budgets, drive growth and control costs
- Experience leading and developing teams in a SME environment
- Confidence using business systems (e.g. Oracle, M365, Power BI and freight/customs platforms)
